UPDATE ON FAIR GROUNDS, ARLINGTON RACING CLUBS

The Fair Grounds Racing Club landed their first stakes win Friday night when Efforting posted a 3½-legnth tally in the $50,000 Acadiana Stakes at Evangeline Downs. The daughter of Into Mischief bounced back off a fourth-place showing against allowance company over the same surface in late April and was sent to post as the 7-5 wagering favorite in the Acadiana. Tracking the early pace under Colby Hernandez, she edged clear into the stretch and was never seriously threatened en route to her first stakes score and second win from five lifetime starts.

“It was very exciting to win a stakes race for the club,” said Fair Grounds Racing Club Manager Gary Palmisano, Jr. “Efforting ran great and delighted the more than 100 club members. We are excited about her future and thank Spendthrift Farm and B. Wayne Hughes for the opportunity to partner on this fantastic filly.”

The Arlington Racing Club is gearing up a second start with Brisson, a 4-year-old daughter of Ghostzapper in training with Wayne Catalano. Acquired after a win in March against claiming company, the filly overcame a rough start to finish fourth in an allowance at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots on April 1. Now working over the Polytrack at Arlington International Racecourse, Brisson turned in a four-furlong work in 49.3 seconds on June 4 in preparation for her next start.

“She went easy,” said Catalano. “She looked great [in the workout], we’ll make sure she came out well and will look for a race for her soon.”

Brisson made her debut on the Tapeta at Woodbine last June, racing twice in Canada before finishing second on the Polytrack at Arlington in August. She has raced exclusively on the turf since and has two wins over the grass in her ten career starts.

RECOUNT HOPES TO ADD ANOTHER ADDISON CAMMACK

Two-time winner of the Addison Cammack Handicap Recount is gearing up for another crack at the Illinois-bred stake at Arlington International Racecourse on June 10. Doubledown Stable’s 5-year-old Grade III winner has already been victorious in two stakes this season, the latest being the Robert S. Molaro Handicap at Hawthorne in April for trainer James DiVito.

Coming off a very close second place finish at Churchill on May 12, Recount worked four furlongs in 49 seconds on May 24 followed by five furlongs on June 4 in a minute flat. The gelding had a very similar workout pattern leading up to his win in the Robert S. Molaro, working five furlongs in a minute flat just six days before the stakes race.

In 20 runnings of the Addison Cammack, no horse has won three editions, but four others have won two back-to-back, including Tic N Tin (2001-02), High Expectations (2006-07), Shrewd Operator (2010-11), and Sweet Luca (2013-14).
