2018 Kentucky Derby: Good Magic tops the early contenders List

Now that we are halfway through January and we’ve seen several races that involved 2018 Kentucky Derby contenders, it’s time for the first Top 10 list of the year.

We’ll start with Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner Good Magic (Curlin) who, although he hasn’t race yet in 2018, goes to the top of the list.

McKinzie (Street Sense), recent winner of the Sham at Santa Anita, is second.

Bolt d’Oro (Medaglia d’Oro) is another that hasn’t race in 2018, but is being pointed to the San Felipe in California.

Solomini (Curlin) is another California-based colt that won the Los Al Futurity but was disqualified and placed third.

Instilled Regard (Arch) won the Lecomte at the Fair Grounds and was impressive in the victory.

Greyvitos (Malibu Moon) won the Bob Hope at Del Mar and beat another nice Bob Baffert horse.

Mourinho (Super Saver) was the Baffert horse that Greyvitos beat and he won the Smarty Jones on Dec. 15.

Mask (Tapit) doesn’t have any Kentucky Derby points yet, but he won the Mucho Macho Man stakes at Gulfstream and is headed to bigger races.

Catholic Boy (More than Ready) won the Remsen on Dec. 2 at Aqueduct. I’ve not a big fan of winter racing in New York and that’s why I don’t have Firenze Fire on this list although he won the Jerome on Jan. 13 at Aqueduct. I think Catholic Boy will go other places to continue his quest.
