Chad Brown sends three in search of third G2 Sands Point victory
NYRA RELEASE —-
ELMONT, N.Y. – Klaravich Stable’s Reversethedecision leads a talented Chad Brown-trained trio in the Grade 2, $400,000 Sands Point for 3-year-old fillies on the turf Saturday at Belmont Park.
Carded as Race 9 with an approximate post time of 5:53 p.m. ET, the 24th running of the Sands Point highlights coverage of Saturday’s edition of Belmont Park Live from 4-6, airing locally on MSG+, as well as FOX Sports Prime Ticket and FOX Sports San Diego.
Exiting a 1 ¾-length optional claiming win in July at Saratoga Race Course, Reversethedecision will be joined by European imports Barkaa and Shadan, each making their respective first starts for the Brown barn, as they look to give their conditioner his second straight win – and third overall – in the Sands Point.
This spring, Reversethedecision, a 3-year-old dark bay or brown filly by Scat Daddy, raced wide in the Boiling Springs to finish a close second to Dark Artist in her stakes debut on May 26. Irad Ortiz, Jr. has the call aboard Reversethedecision, who drew post 4.
Barkaa won four of seven starts in her native France, including a four-length score in the Group 3 Prix Vanteaux at Longchamp Racecourse in April. The daughter of Siyouni finished ninth by 3 ¾ lengths in the Group 1 Prix de Diane Longines in her last European start on June 17. Fellow French-bred Shadan enters with back-to-back wins, including a half-length victory in the Prix Caravelle last time out on April 28 at Toulouse.
Barkaa will be ridden by Tyler Gaffalione from the rail. Shadan will break from post 2 with Manny Franco aboard.
Alice Bamford’s homebred Californiagoldrush will make the sojourn east for Hall of Fame trainer Neil Drysdale. The chestnut Cape Blanco filly won her first two career starts and returned from a six-month-plus layoff to finish third in the Grade 1 Del Mar Oaks on August 18.
Californiagoldrush will be ridden by Flavien Prat from post 7.
Graham Motion, who won the 2010 Sands Point with Check the Label, will be represented by a pair of runners in this year’s edition, saddling Grade 3 Pucker Up winner Secret Message and French-bred Colonia, recently fifth in the Del Mar Oaks.
Rounding out the field are Victorine making her North American debut for France-based trainer Henri-Alex Pantall and Grade 2 Lake Placid runner-up Capla Temptress from the Hall of Fame barn of Bill Mott.
