The $1 million Xpressbet.com Florida Derby Post-Position Draw, Ten Palms, Noon to 1 p.m.
Post-positions will be drawn and odds assigned for Saturday’s 68th running of the $1 million Xpressbet.com Florida Derby (G1). The race is expected to draw the first four finishers from the Fountain of Youth (G2) – Code of Honor, Bourbon War and Hidden Scroll.

Racing’s top 2-year-olds go through the sales ring at Gulfstream. Come and bid or just watch.

The weekend begins with the first of 11 stakes races, including the $100,000 Orchid Handicap (G3) and $100,000 Appleton Handicap, both over the turf. The Walking Ring will be the site of the Florida Derby Party Cocktails & Horse Tales. The party is by invitation only from 6-8 p.m. but opens to the public with a cash bar and $20 donation to Thoroughbred Aftercare from 8-9:30 p.m.
Saturday, March 30
$1 Million Xpressbet.com Florida Derby. 11:30 a.m. first race. Silks Simulcast opens at 8 a.m. for Dubai World Cup
In the first 67 runnings of the Florida Derby, 44 of its starters have gone on to capture 59 Triple Crown events. The day begins early with Breakfast at Gulfstream at 8 a.m. Silks Simulcast will open at 8 a.m. to accommodate bettors wagering on and watching the Dubai World Cup card, which will include Pegasus World Cup Invitational participants Gunnevera and Seeking the Soul.
Along with the Derby, there will be seven stakes races – four graded – including the $250,000 Gulfstream Park Oaks (G2), a major prep for the Kentucky Oaks (G1), the $300,000 Gulfstream Park Mile (G2) and the $250,000 Pan American (G2).

Some of South Florida’s top chefs from the area’s top restaurants serve up their signature dishes to benefit Florida Thoroughbred Retirement and Adoptive Care (TRAC), which has successfully retrained more than 500 retired Thoroughbreds into successful second careers and “forever” homes. There will also be celebrity judges, jockeys and a silent auction featuring including halters from 2004 Horse of the Year Ghostzapper, 1998 Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) winner Awesome Again, and stallion seasons to Shaman Ghost and Capo Bastone.
