Dynatail Wins Wednesday’s Featured Whitney Purse
LEXINGTON, KY (April 10, 2019) – Ballybrit Stable’s Dynatail inched past pacesetting Bonnie Arch a few strides before the finish line to win the $87,000 Whitney Purse for fillies and mares by a head before a sun-splashed Wednesday afternoon crowd of 9,043. (Click here for a video of the race.)
Trained by Michael Dini and ridden by Luis Saez, Dynatail covered the mile on a firm turf course in 1:36.68. The victory was the third of the afternoon for Saez.
A 5-year-old Kentucky-bred daughter of Hightail out of the Dynaformer mare Southern Dynamo, Dynatail was making her first start of 2019. The victory was worth $52,200 to the Keeneland sales graduate and increased her earnings to $392,410 with a record of 25-6-3-5.
Dynatail, sent off as the third choice in the field of nine, paid $17.60, $8.40 and $6.40. Runner-up Bonnie Arch, ridden by Chris Landeros, returned $9.80 and $7 with She’s Pretty Lucky finishing another three-quarters of a length back in third and paying $8.40 to show under Tyler Gaffalione.
Racing continues Thursday with a nine-race program that begins at 1:05 p.m. ET.
