Sunday’s Rainbow 6 Carryover Jackpot Soars to $2.78 Million
Multiple-Stakes Winner Galleon Mast Set for 2019 Debut Sunday
Fast Pass Breezes 4F for June 29 $250,000 Smile Sprint (G3)
HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – The 20-cent Rainbow 6 carryover jackpot soared to $2,785,123.42 for Sunday’s program at Gulfstream Park when the popular multi-race wager went unsolved for the 51st consecutive racing day Saturday.
Rainbow 6 tickets will all six winners were each worth $4,037.66.
The carryover jackpot is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.
A total of $423,761 was bet into the Rainbow Saturday, when wagering on the six-race sequence started with a carryover of $2,683,443.53 from Friday’s program.
Sunday’s Rainbow 6 sequence will span Race 7-12, highlighted by an optional claiming allowance in Race 8 that will be contested by seven stakes winners. Multiple stakes-winner Galleon Mast, who has finished first or second in 13 of 18 starts over the Gulfstream turf, is slated to make his 2019 debut in the mile turf stakes.
“He’s just an honest horse. He gives you 100 percent every time. He’s just a good horse,” trainer David Fawkes said. “He’s an easy horse to train; he’s easy around the barn; he eats good; he trains good; he does everything good.”
The 6-year-old gelding will be challenged by stakes winners Kroy, Speed Franco, Uncle B., Swagger Jagger and My Point Exactly in a field of 10.
There will also be a Super Hi-5 carryover of $3,165.65 heading into Saturday’s card.
Fast Pass Breezes 4F for Saturday’s $250,000 Smile Sprint (G3)
Paradise Farms Corp. and Walder Racing’s Fast Pass breezed four furlongs in company at Gulfstream Park Saturday in preparation for a scheduled start in next Saturday’s $250,000 Smile Sprint (G3).
The Smile Sprint, a six-furlong dash for 3-year-olds and up, will co-headline Gulfstream’s Summit of Speed program with the $250,000 Princess Rooney (G2), a seven-furlong Breeders’ Cup ‘Win and You’re In’ stakes for fillies and mares.
Fast Pass breezed the half-mile in 48.66 seconds under jockey Miguel Vasquez, producing a clocking that ranked 14th out of 86 workouts recorded at the distance.
”He’s not much of a work horse. I think last time before the stake, he worked in 50 [seconds]. I had Vasquez work him in company today. He sat a couple lengths off the pace and ran down the other horse,” trainer Peter Walder said. “Watching him work you’re not going to get goose bumps, but when the lights go on in the afternoon, that’s when he shows up.”
Fast Pass will seek his third win in a row when he makes his graded-stakes debut in the Smile Sprint. The 6-year-old gelded son of Successful Appeal closed from far back to win the May 26 Opening Lead Stakes at Gulfstream.
Trainer David Fawkes sent out a pair of Summit of Speed candidates to the Gulfstream Park track Saturday morning. Seismic Jolt ($75,000 Carry Back) and Lovesick ($75,000 Azalea) finish on even terms while breezing five furlongs in 1:00.45.
