HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – The 20-cent Rainbow 6 was solved for a jackpot payoff of $3,151,249.04 at Gulfstream Park Thursday. The popular-multi-race wager had gone unsolved for 52 consecutive racing days.

The winning combination was 4-8-7-3-2-4.

A total of $347,510 was bet into the Rainbow 6 Thursday, when wagering on the six-race sequence started with a carryover of $2,873,391 from Sunday’s program.

The carryover jackpot is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that days’ pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

There will be a Super Hi-5 carryover of $4,339.46 heading into Friday’s 2:15 p.m. twilight card.

The Rainbow 6 will start anew on Friday, spanning Races 4-9.

Races 7, 8 and 9 will be included in Friday’s Stronach 5 sequence. Race 8 from Laurel Park will kick off the popular multi-race, multi-track wager, which will also include Race 10 from Laurel.

Trainer D’Angelo, Jockey Martinez Notch Milestone Victories

Trainer Jose D’Angelo saddled his first winner in the U.S. at Gulfstream Park Thursday, when Beach Dreaming ($5.40) put him in the winner’s circle following a 2 ¼-length victory in Race 5.

Beach Dreaming, who was ridden by Leonel Reyes, defeated eight $12,500 claimers in his first start since being claimed by owner/trainer D’Angelo.

“I’m from Venezuela. I was the champion last year,” D’Angelo said. “I’ve been training for five years. My dad [Francisco D’Angelo] was a champion trainer in Venezuela. He’s come to Miami for four years. I decided to come to Miami with my father and start training here.”

D’Angelo, who currently trains eight horses, finished second with his first two starters in the U.S. The first runner-up finish came in the 2017 Clasico Internacional del Caribe at Gulfstream with Venezuela-based Forze Mau in the Copa Velocidad. His first starter since relocating to Gulfstream Park, Cocktail Skirt, finished second by a nose in a $12,500 claiming race June 8.

One race earlier on Thursday’s card, 10-pound apprentice Gaddiel Martinez notched his first career victory in Race 4.

The 20-year-old native of Puerto Rico guided Respondingtoglobal ($25.20) to a two-length score in the mile race for $10,000 maiden claimers.

“I’m very happy to get my first win here at Gulfstream Park. Thank you to the owner [Coco Ranch LLC] and the trainer [Alexis Cordero-Lopez] for helping me win my first race,” said the graduate of Puerto Rico’s Escuela Vocacional Hipica.

Martinez made his first trip to a winner’s circle on his 19th mount in the U.S. after going winless on 96 mounts at Camarero in Puerto Rico.

O’Connell Trainees Top Field for Friday’s Golden Isles Stakes

Trainer Kathleen O’Connell, who is scheduled to saddle defending champion Stormy Embrace for the $250,000 Princess Rooney (G2) and Jalen Journey for the $250,000 Smile Sprint (G3) on Saturday’s Summit of Speed card, has two entrants for Friday’s $75,000 Golden Isles, a 5 ½-furlong stakes for 2-year-old fillies, at Gulfstream Park.

Solid as a Rock and Lenzi’s Lucky Lady, both Stonehedge LLC homebreds, are coming off debut victories.

Solid as a Rock, a daughter of Khozan who has been installed as the 2-1 morning-line favorite in a field of eight, scored by three lengths in her 4 ½-furlong debut at Gulfstream May 2.

Leading rider Edgard Zayas has the return mount.

Lenzi’s Lucky Lady, a daughter of With Distinction who is rated second at 5-2 in the morning line, prevailed by a half-length in her June 6 debut after dueling throughout the five-furlong test.

Jairo Rendon has the mount.

All Together Stable and Andrew Gary’s Bahamian Girl, a daughter of Bahamian Squall trained by Anna Varsi, is rated third at 4-1 off a 2 ¼-length triumph in her second career start May 26. Luca Panici will be back in the irons.

Marching In, Raven, Carolyn’s Smile, Lucky Milady and Sonar round out the field.

Leading Rider Edgard Zayas Featured on Blew’s Clues

Jockey Edgard Zayas, who will claim the title of Gulfstream’s leading rider when the spring meet comes to a close Sunday, was the latest guest on Jason Blewitt’s “Blew’s Clues.”

Zayas has a full card on Saturday’s Summit of Speed Day at Gulfstream. He rides Royal Asscher in the $250,000 Princess Rooney (G2), favored Lovesick in the $75,000 Azalea and Seismic Jolt in the $75,000 Carry Back.

Zayas spoke about returning from a fractured femur that sidelined him throughout most of the 2018-19 Championship Meet, some promising young horses, winning his first Grade 1 race aboard Starship Truffles as an apprentice in the 2013 Princess Rooney, and his admiration for Hall of Fame rider John Velazquez.
