Stronach 5 Returns Friday with Four Tracks & $100,000 Guaranteed Pool

LAUREL, MD – The Stronach 5, featuring a $100,000 guaranteed pool and industry-low 12-percent takeout, returns Friday with races from Laurel Park, Santa Anita Park, Golden Gate Fields and Gulfstream Park.

Friday’s sequence begins at 3:49 p.m. with Laurel’s eighth race, a $42,000 allowance contest at seven furlongs led by 4-year-olds Benintendi and Mungojerrie.

Owned by Ten Strike Racing, Madaket Stables LLC and Master 2013 LLC, Benintendi, who sold for $270,000 as a 2-year-old, breaks from the rail for trainer Brittany Russell and jockey Sheldon Russell. The son of Take Charge Indy broke his maiden in November at Laurel and has since finished second in two allowance events.

Mungojerrie, owned by Lael Stable and trained by Arnaud Delacour, is a son of Declaration of War who broke his maiden Jan. 10 at Tampa Bay Downs by 16 ½ lengths. He finished second Feb. 9 at Tampa in an allowance optional claimer. Trevor McCarthy gets the mount.

The Stronach 5 remains at Laurel for the ninth race, a claiming event at 5 ½ furlongs that drew a field of nine, before heading west for Santa Anita’s second race, a $20,000 claiming event for 3-year-olds and up that drew 14 starters. After a stop at Golden Gate Fields, the Stronach 5 will wrap up at Gulfstream with a field of nine on the mile turf course.

The Stronach 5 In the Money podcast, hosted by Jonathan Kinchen and Peter Thomas Fornatale, will be posted by 2 p.m. Thursday at InTheMoneyPodcast.com and will be available on iTunes and other major podcast distributors.

Players can find weekly entries, updates, results and additional handicapping tools on twitter @1stBet #Stronach5.

Friday’s Stronach 5 Sequence

o Leg One: Laurel Park 8th Race (8 entries, 7 furlongs): 3:49 ET, 12:49 PT

o Leg Two: Laurel Park 9th Race (9 entries, 5 ½ furlongs): 4:23 ET, 1:23 PT

o Leg Three: Santa Anita Park 2nd Race (14 entries, 6 furlongs): 4:32 ET, 1:32 PT

o Leg Four: Golden Gate Fields 3rd Race (7 entries, 5 ½ furlongs): 5:15 ET, 2:15 PT

o Leg Five: Gulfstream Park Race 9th Race (9 entries, 1 mile turf): 5:19 ET, 2:19 PT

The minimum wager on the multi-race, multi-track Stronach 5 is $1. If there are no tickets with five winners, the entire pool will be carried over to the next Friday.

For the Stronach 5, if a change in racing surface is made after the wagering closes, each selection on any ticket will be considered a winning selection. If a betting interest is scratched, that selection will be substituted with the favorite in the win pool when wagering closes.

The Maryland Jockey Club serves as host of the Stronach 5.
