‘All Other 3-Year-Old Fillies’ Favored at 3-1 in Lone Oaks Future Over 4-1 Venetian Harbor
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Sunday, March 8, 2020) – Eight weeks in advance of the $3 million Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve (Grade I), the pari-mutuel field of “All Other 3-Year-Olds” closed as the 4-1 favorite in Pool 3 of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager (KDFW).
Saturday’s San Felipe (GII) winner unbeaten Authentic, trained by five-time Kentucky Derby-winning trainer Bob Baffert, closed as the 6-1 second choice. Champagne (GI) and Holy Bull (GIII) winner Tiz the Law was the 7-1 third choice after closing as the individual favorite in Pools 1 and 2.
“All Other 3-Year-Olds” has closed as the March future pool favorite in 15 of the last 18 years.
Other horses that attracted interest from bettors in the KDFW Pool 3 were Baffert’s Nadal (10-1) and Charlatan (12-1); San Felipe (GII) runner-up Honor A. P. (14-1); come-backing Breeders’ Futurity (GI) winner Maxfield (15-1); and Fountain of Youth (GII) winner Ete Indien (16-1).

The Kentucky Derby Future Wager, offered for a 22nd consecutive year, enables bettors to wager on possible Kentucky Derby contenders in advance of America’s greatest race at odds that could be more attractive than those available on the day of the race. The $3 million Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve (GI) for 3-year-old Thoroughbreds is scheduled to be run for the 146th consecutive year on Saturday, May 2.
In the lone Kentucky Oaks Future Wager, which was conducted concurrently with the KDFW, the pari-mutuel field of “All Other 3-Year-Old Fillies” closed as the 3-1 favorite over runaway Las Virgenes (GII) winner Venetian Harbor, who was 4-1.

All told, $545,684 was bet in future wagers over the three-day period compared to last year’s $552,662. To date, Churchill Downs has handled $1,533,989 in future wagers since November. Last year’s total future wager handle was $1,377,952 through the comparative dates.
Total handle for the March 6-8 KDFW pool – the third of four wagering pools in advance of the 1 ¼-mile Kentucky Derby – was $356,668 ($260,270 in the Win pool and $96,398 in Exactas) versus last year’s $385,464 ($282,199 in the Win pool and $103,265 in Exactas).
Betting on the Oaks Future Wager totaled $101,841 ($74,065 in the Win pool and $27,776 in Exactas) compared to last year’s $88,652 ($65,252 in the Win pool and $23,400 in Exactas).
The Oaks/Derby Future Double, which requires fans to correctly select the winners of both the $1.25 million Longines Kentucky Oaks on May 1 and the next day’s Kentucky Derby, handled $87,175 compared to last year’s $78,546.
The year’s fourth and final Kentucky Derby Future Wager pool is set for April 3-5.
