Full Card Picks for Churchill Downs

Saturday, June 6, 2020

The 11-race card at Churchill Downs for this Saturday is highlighted by the Grade 3 Dogwood Stakes, a 7-furlong sprint for fillies and mares three-years-old and up. A collection of low level claiming races are interspersed throughout this card, and although the class of the horses is suspect the contentiousness of the races is not.

Race 10 – Dogwood Stakes G3 – 7 furlongs for F-M 3yo old up 5-2-8-3

Whichever filly wins this race will gain black type for the first time in her career. Magic Dance (5)displayed great promise as a two-year-old until something went wrong in the G2 Adirondack at Saratoga last August. She stumbled badly in that race and went to the bench for seven months following that effort. Trainer Steve Asmussen chose to bring her back this year in a route race at Oaklawn on March 28. She ducked in at the start and finished 10 lengths behind the winner. She now returns to a sprint race with a half-dozen decent works on her tab. Her back class is the reason for my picking her to win here.

Four Graces (2) is the 5-2 ML favorite after winning in allowance company at Churchill last month at this distance. She certainly must be included on your vertical tickets. John Sadler trains Edgeway (8), and she won two of three sprints at Oaklawn this spring. She is a definite pace factor. Bayerness (3) sports a pair of recent bullet works for trainer Cherie DeVaux who is off to a great start at this Churchill meet. This is a good betting race with a contentious, well-matched field of eight.

Race 1: 3-2-6-5

Race 2: 7-10-1-9

Race 3: 4-5-1-6

Race 4: 5-1-11-3

Race 5: 7-11-1-6

Race 6: 4-12-10-7

Race 7: 5-6-1-9

Race 8: 6-2-3-4

Race 9: 10-3-5-9

Race 10: 5-2-8-3

Race 11: 1-3-6-8
