The Oaks-Derby double is great fun to play, and if you can catch a price horse in one of the two races the payoff can be big. Two upsets will pay boxcar numbers. Here are a combination of ways to play the Oaks-Derby double. You can combine them or play any one you like.

So let’s start with the Steve Asmussen Double of Echo Zulu (7) in the Oaks and Epicenter (3) in the Derby. DD 7 with 3. I’ll play it for at least $5, and you really like this pair you can go bigger.

Since the Oaks goes off first, let’s make a ticket that includes the four likely fillies – Secret Oath (1), Nest (4), Echo Zulu (7), and Kathleen O (10). I’m going to pair them with all the horses I’ve identified as win contenders in the Derby: Mo Donegal (1), Epicenter (3), Messier(6), Zandon (10) Taiba (12) and my longshot Tiz the Bomb (9). DD 1,4,7,10 with 1,3,6,9,10,12. For $2 this bet will cost a total of $48

The All Stakes Pick 5 on Oaks Day is in races 7-11. I suggest the following which is a $192 ticket for $.50.

Race 7 1,2,5,6
Race 8 3,5,8
Race 9 2,3,6,8
Race 10 3,10
Race 11 1,4,7,10

The All Stakes Pick 4 starts in Race 8 and invites a deeper play in some legs. The cost is $128 for a $.50 ticket.

Race 8 2,3,5,8
Race 9 2,3,6,8
Race 10 2,3,10,11
Race 11 1,4,7,10
