DEBUTING QUICK BROWN FOX AMONG NOTABLE 3YO FILLIES SUNDAY
Adding intrigue to a 10-race card Sunday are a pair of races for 3-year-old fillies, which go as the first and the fifth.
Kicking off the program is a seven-furlong maiden heat featuring the debut of Quick Brown Fox, a daughter of Triple Crown winner Justify and the first foal out of multiple Grade I winner Bast. In the fifth, a $61,000 allowance at 6 ½-furlongs, a trio of fillies briefly on the Kentucky Oaks trail get class relief but will also have to deal with two recent Bob Baffert-trained maiden winners.
Quick Brown Fox, trained by Richard Mandella, is the 9-5 morning line favorite for her unveiling. The Spendthrift Farm homebred was originally set to debut on March 16 at Santa Anita but was scratched. She will break from the rail under Frankie Dettori.
Quick Brown Fox’s sire, Justify, famously swept the Triple Crown in 2018. Bast won three Grade Is in 2019 when trained by Bob Baffert—the Del Mar Debutante, Chandelier Stakes at Santa Anita and Starlet Stakes at Los Alamitos.
Since being scratched, Quick Brown Fox has returned with three works including a six-furlong move in 1:12.80 April 11.
Also set to debut is high-priced auction buy Jane Austen for trainer Mark Glatt. By Tapit out of the Indian Charlie mare Shayjolie, owner Muir Hut Stables purchased the filly for $750,000 at auction last year. Jane Austen is 4-1 on the morning line and will have Antonio Fresu aboard.
Post time for the first is 1 p.m. PT. The field for the first race in post position order: Quick Brown Fox, Frankie Dettori (9-5); Jane Austen, Antonio Fresu (4-1); Queen of Naples, Kazushi Kimura (3-1); Ms Bo J, Edwin Maldonado (5-2); Strikingly, Jeremy Laprida (15-1); Apple Fest, Juan Hernandez (6-1).
In the fifth, Nay V Belle for trainer Mark Glatt and Pacific Rose for Doug O’Neill drop in class following off-the-board finishes in the GIII Santa Ysabel March 9. Nay V Belle, who was making just her second start and first around two turns in the Santa Ysabel, is the 3-1 co-second choice on the morning line.
The 5-2 favorite is In Theory for Baffert. By Mendelsohn, In Theory won her debut in front-running fashion when going six furlongs here March 23. She will have top Santa Anita rider Juan Hernandez in the irons.
Also entered for Baffert is Show Card (3-1), who graduated by 3 ½ lengths under Hernandez when going six furlongs here March 16. That effort earned a field-high 84 Beyer Speed Figure. With Hernandez opting for In Theory, Kyle Frey takes the call on Show Card.
Another a major threat is Tambo, also listed at 3-1 on the morning line. Trained by Peter Eurton, Tambo was third in the seven-furlong GIII Santa Ynez here Jan. 7. The Enticed filly came back to clear her first-level allowance condition going 6 ½ furlongs Feb. 23 at Santa Anita.
Post time for the fifth is set for 3:03 p.m. The field in post position order: Pacific Rose, Edwin Maldonado (10-1); Show Card, Kyle Frey (3-1); Ma Rae’s Girl, Kazushi Kimura (8-1); Nay V Belle, Frankie Dettori (3-1); Beau Soleil, Tyler Baze (20-1); Tambo, Antonio Fresu (3-1).

MUTH, IMAGINATION LEAD WORK TAB ON BEAUTIFUL SPRING MORNING
Grade I Arkansas Derby winner Muth and GI Santa Anita Derby runner-up Imagination each worked for trainer Bob Baffert Sunday morning. Also returning to the work tab following a trip to Dubai was Two Rivers Over, who won the $1 million Godolphin Mile for trainer Doug O’Neill March 30.
Muth worked five furlongs in 1:00.20. It was his second work since a sharp two-length victory in the Arkansas Derby March 30 at Oaklawn Park. Imagination, who was beaten a neck by Stronghold in the April 6 Santa Anita Derby, returned to the tab with four-furlong work in 48.0 seconds.
Both Muth and Imagination are candidates for the Preakness Stakes May 18 at Pimlico.
Two Rivers Over worked four furlongs in 49.60 seconds. Prior to his win in the Godolphin Mile, the 4-year-old gelding by Tamarkuz was fourth in the GII San Pasqual Jan. 27 at Santa Anita. Last year, Two Rivers Over won the Zia Park Derby.
Also returning to the tab was Santa Anita Derby third-place finisher E J Won the Cup. By Omaha Beach, E J Won the Cup went four furlongs in 47.80 seconds. Prior to the Santa Anita Derby he won the Turf Paradise Derby April 6 in Arizona.
Other notable stakes winners on the tab included Gold Phoenix (5f(t), 1:01.60), Forbidden Kingdom (4f, 47.80), Stay and Scam (4f, 47.80) and Kings River Knight (5f, 1:02.00).

PERMANENTLY DISABLED JOCKEYS FUND TELETHON SET FOR SUNDAY
The 6th annual Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund telethon is Sunday and will be broadcast on both FanDuel TV and America’s Day at the Races on the Fox Sports family of networks.
Active and retired jockeys will be on hand accepting donations at call centers at Santa Anita and Keeneland from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. PT as their schedules permit. Fans can participate by calling 1-844-884-7353 or can donate directly at the PDJF website, pdjf.org/donate.
Popular retired jockeys scheduled to participate include Steve Cauthen, Sandy Hawley, Chris McCarron, Donna Barton Brothers, Alex Solis, Shane Sellers and more.
Since the inaugural event in 2018, the telethon has raised more than $1.5 million in support of the PDJF.

FINISH LINES: Kazushi Kimura and Hector Berrios each won three races on Saturday’s 10-race card. Kimura’s wins came with Normandy Landing ($5.80) in the third, Travelin’ Show ($19) in the fourth and Mr Fisk ($9.20) in the seventh. Berrios scored with Zoffarelli ($7.80) in the opener, Moon Ice ($8) in the sixth and Maltese Falcon ($6.60) in the 10th and final… Fueled by a $49,398 carryover, Saturday’s $1 Pick 6 returned a healthy $1,071.60 despite having four winning favorites as part of the sequence. There were 286 tickets with all six winners. The winning horses starting with the fifth race were #4 Tiz Tok ($6.40), #4 Moon Ice ($8), #5 Mr Fisk ($9.20), #3 Medoro ($2.40), #8 Man O Rose ($3.60) and #3 Maltese Falcon ($6.80)…Mr Fisk earned a 97 Beyer Speed Figure for his win Saturday’s GIII Californian Stakes, according to Daily Racing Form’s Brad Free…Three stakes are on tap next week at Santa Anita. On Saturday are the Kona Gold for older horses going six furlongs and GIII Royal Heroine for older fillies and mares at a mile on turf. Sunday’s feature is the Singletary Stakes for 3-year-olds at a mile on turf…Live racing resumes Friday at Santa Anita. Every Friday during the Hollywood Meet on-track patrons receive free parking and admission plus $3 beers and $5 margaritas.
