Oversubscribed makes triumphant return in Forever Together victory

By Brian Bohl

OZONE PARK, N.Y.
– Klaravich Stables’ Oversubscribed, making her first start in more than one year, showed the winning form she displayed as a sophomore, running down stablemate Malleymoo in the stretch to post a half-length victory in Sunday’s $150,000 Forever Together at Aqueduct Racetrack.

The Forever Together’s ninth edition, originally scheduled for the previous Sunday before high winds canceled the card, saw five-time Eclipse Award-winning trainer Chad Brown saddle the exacta, with Malleymoo finishing 3 1/4 lengths clear of Nice as Pie for second in the penultimate turf race at the Big A this year.

Flowers for Me finished fourth, with Spinning Colors, Racing Colors and Miss Bonnie T completing the order of finish in the 1 1/16-mile outer turf contest for fillies and mares 3-years-old and up. St. Benedicts Prep, Bernietakescharge and Tipple, all entered for the main track only, were scratched.

Oversubscribed, who was reportedly sidelined with lung issues after finishing second in last November’s Grade 3 Pebbles here, stayed off New York-bred Spinning Colors’ early speed, as she led the seven-horse field through splits of 23.95 seconds for the quarter-mile, the half in 48.93 and three-quarters in 1:13.04 over firm going.

Jockey Flavien Prat stayed patient on Oversubscribed, and tipped her out slightly when straightened for home. Oversubscribed overtook Spinning Colors from the outside and set her sights on Mallymoo in the final furlong, taking command while receiving right-handed encouragement and hitting the wire in a final time of 1:43.58.

Oversubscribed, the 1-2 favorite, returned $3.06 on a $2 win bet. The 4-year-old Too Darn Hot filly, who posted two wins and three runner-up efforts in six starts as a sophomore in 2024, registered her second career stakes victory and first since the Listed Wild Applause last June at Aqueduct. She increased her career earnings to $275,765 and was bred in Great Britain by Rabbah Bloodstock.

“She felt good,” Prat said. “She broke very forwardly and they went running going into the first turn, but then they slowed down quite a bit. I was pleased to be in the first group. When I tipped her out, she gave me a good run and got tired in the last eighth of a mile, but she managed to get the job done.

“I thought turning for home that I had a lot of horse, but the track is a bit sticky and she hasn’t run for so long, so naturally, she got a little tired,” Prat added.

LSU Stables’ Malleymoo has finished on-the-board in each of her last six outings. The 5-year-old English Channel mare earned her first stakes black type since winning the 2023 Listed Penn Oaks.

“The plan was to go forward, and that’s what I did in the beginning,” said Malleymoo jockey Manny Franco. “I was trying to make the pace go a little, and then ride my race from there. She just was second best today. She tried hard through the wire.”

Live racing resumes Friday at the Big A with a nine-race card. First post is 12:10 p.m. Eastern.
