MRS. ASTOR SHOOTS FOR A 7TH STAKES WIN FOR THOMAS AND AUGUSTIN STABLE IN THE GRADE III SANTA ANA STAKES FOR OLDER FILLIES AND MARES GOING 1 ¼ MILES ON TURF SUNDAY AT SANTA ANITA

ARCADIA, CA (March 10, 2026)—Mrs. Astor, a six-time stake winner including four at the graded level, will look to add to her standout record Sunday when she takes on a full field of fillies and mares in the Grade III, $100,000 Santa Ana Stakes going 1 ¼ miles on turf at Santa Anita.

Mrs. Astor kicked off her 6-year-old season on Jan. 19 by winning the 1 ½-mile Astra Stakes by a nose. Last year, the daughter of Lookin at Lucky won the GIII Red Carpet at Del Mar; both the Possibly Perfect and Santa Barbara at Santa Anita; and she finished second in the Santa Ana. In 2024, she won the Red Carpet for the first time as well as the GIII Robert J. Frankel at Santa Anita.

Mrs. Astor is trained by Jonathan Thomas. She sports an overall record of 22: 8-5-4 and $627,235 in earnings for owner-breeder Augustin Stable. She’ll have a new rider on Sunday in place of Umberto Rispoli, who is sidelined with an injury. Antonio Fresu will ride Mrs. Astor for the first time in the Santa Ana.

Paradise Lake looms as a formidable threat to Mrs. Astor. In November’s Red Carpet going 1 3/8 miles, she finished just 1 ¾-lengths back of Mrs. Astor. She came back in January to win this year’s edition of the Robert J. Frankel at 1 1/8 miles. Paradise Lake scored in the Frankel by a nose over the Thomas-trained Starry Night, who also returns in the Santa Ana.

Paradise Lake, a 5-year-old mare by Uncle Mo, is trained by Peter Eurton for owner C R K Stable. She is 11: 4-1-4 with $228,000 in earnings. Paradise Lake will be ridden by Santa Anita’s top jockey Juan Hernandez, who was also aboard for the Frankel win.

Starry Night was making her stakes debut when narrowly beaten by Paradise Lake in the Frankel. A 4-year-old filly by Justify, Starry Night set the pace that day and finished gamely but could not hold off the late charge of Paradise Lake. She is owned by X-Men Racing, Madaket Stables and SF Racing. Ricky Gonzalez, who aboard in the Frankel, again has the call on Starry Night.
