HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – Post positions for the richest horse race in the world – the $12 million Pegasus World Cup Invitational (G1) – will be drawn Monday, Jan. 23 at Pegasus Park at Gulfstream Park.
The park will open at 4:30 p.m. and the post position draw will take place at 5 p.m.
The inaugural running of the innovative Pegasus World Cup Invitational, to be contested at nine furlongs, will feature one of the most highly anticipated match-ups in Thoroughbred racing history between Arrogate and California Chrome.
Others expected to try and upset the two Horse of the Year candidates include Keen Ice, the only horse to beat Triple Crown winner American Pharoah during his 3-year-old season, Woodward (G1) winner Shaman Ghost, Clark Handicap (G1) runner-up Breaking Lucky, Stephen Foster (G1) winner Noble Bird, and South American import Eragon.

Pegasus Group, Jockeys’ Guild Reach Agreement
The Pegasus Group and Jockeys’ Guild announced today they have reached an agreement on minimal jockey compensation and jockey sponsorship’s for the $12 million Pegasus World Cup Invitational (G1) at Gulfstream Park Saturday, Jan. 28.
The 1 1/8 mile Pegasus – the world’s richest and most unique horse race – has attracted a star-studded cast including Horse of the Year finalists Arrogate and California Chrome.
“We’re excited about our agreement with the Pegasus Group and we’re committed to making the Pegasus World Cup Invitational a memorable event,” said Terry Meyocks, National Manager of the Jockeys’ Guild.
