Inaugural $12 Million Pegasus World Cup Draws International Interest

World’s Richest Race Carried Live in 122 Countries Worldwide

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – There will be a distinct international flavor to Saturday’s inaugural running of the world’s richest horse race, the $12 million Pegasus World Cup Invitational (G1) at Gulfstream Park.

The 1 1/8-mile race, featuring a rematch between California Chrome and Arrogate will be carried live by 122 countries worldwide.

Television crews from Australia, Russia and the United Arab Emirates’ capital of Abu Dhabi are providing on-site coverage, and the race has also drawn media interest from the United Kingdom, Sweden, Ireland, Canada and South America.

Domestic television coverage will be provided by NBC from 4:30-6 p.m. The Pegasus World Cup anchors a 12-race program that begins at 11:30 a.m. Post time for the Pegasus World Cup is 5:45 p.m.

The Pegasus World Cup Invitational will have six supporting stakes, three graded, worth $1.15 million in purse money: the $400,000 Poseidon; $200,000 W.L. McKnight (G3) and $200,000 La Prevoyante (G3) on grass; the $100,000 Hurricane Bertie (G3); and the $125,000 Gulfstream Park Turf Sprint and $125,000 Ladies Turf Sprint.
