ARLINGTON TO OFFER 20 STAKES RACES WORTH $3.4 MILLION IN 2017

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (February 3, 2017) – Arlington International Racecourse has announced a 2017 stakes schedule that includes 20 stakes worth more than $3.4 million. Highlighting the schedule is the International Festival of Racing on Aug. 12 featuring the 35th running of the Grade I Arlington Million, the Grade I Beverly D., the Grade I Secretariat Stakes and the Grade III American St. Leger along with the Grade III Pucker Up Stakes and the Bruce D. Memorial.

The stakes season kicks off May 13 with the Grade III Hanshin Cup, in its 23rd year as an exchange race between Arlington and the Japan Racing Association, and is followed by the Grade III Arlington Classic the following weekend.

Six $50,000 state-bred stakes are slated to be run during the month of June, showcasing Illinois’ finest locals in the Purple Violet Stakes, the Springfield Stakes, the Addison Cammack Stakes, the Isaac Murphy Stakes, the Black Tie Affair Handicap and the Mike Spellman Memorial Handicap.

Million Preview Day will once again be held five weeks out from the International Festival of Racing on July 8 and will offer the top three finishers in each race a free starting spot in the corresponding race on Million Day. The day features four stakes worth $400,000 – the Stars and Stripes, the American Derby, the Arlington Handicap and the Modesty Handicap.

The stakes schedule conclude with a pair of listed stakes races for juveniles on Sept. 9 with the running of the Arlington-Washington Futurity and the Arlington-Washington Lassie.
