Irish War Cry seeks return to winning ways in G2 Wood Memorial
By Rick Francis —-
Isabelle de Tomaso’s Irish War Cry looks for redemption following his tiring G2 Fountain of Youth finish when he faces seven up and coming rivals in the 93rd edition of the Grade 2 Wood Memorial; let’s take a look at the field.
Aqueduct
Race 10) 1„ Mile. Wood Memorial S. presented by NYRA Bets PRESENTED BY NYRA BETS. Grade II. Purse $750,000 FOR THREE YEAR OLDS. Post Time: ( 5:52)/ 4:52/ 3:52/ 2:52
Glennrichment 1), Rodriquez/Carmouche; by Pioneer of the Nile, colt had shown improvement in each of his last two starts culminating with his maiden score in last; trainer Rudy Rod is 21 percent at the meet and dangerous with his thirds of a cycle.
Mo Town 2), Dutrow/Castellano; chased a sensible pace in the Risen Star but tired into the stretch to finish out of the money. Uncle Mo colt needs to find his Remsen magic again and with the aid of Javier Castellano in the irons he just may.
Battalion Runner 3), Pletcher/Velasquez, J; pricey son of Unbridled’s Song makes his stakes debut looking for his third straight win. Colt has shown an ability to control the pace, as most in here like to be on or near the front, and what better way to do that is having Hall of Famer Johnny V in the saddle.
Bonus Points 4), Pletcher/Saez; this Majestic Warrior colt finds a way of getting on the board, hitting with five of his seven starts; connections will take that here.
True Timber 5), McLaughlin/Lopez; out of Mineshaft, colt, when asked, didn’t respond last out in the G3 Gotham. He’s had some success on the inner track, placing and showing in a couple of Grade 3’s; he’s capable of an exotics finish.
Stretch’s Stone 6), Levine/Franco; gelding out of Bustin Stones was bumped up to first last out via DQ facing New York-breds and today faces open company for the first time. His works have been outstanding for his graded debut, and appears ready for the challenge.
Cloud Computing 7), Brown/Ortiz, I, Jr; couldn’t reel in J Boys Echo last out in the Gotham, and he had his chances. That losing effort posted the field’s highest last out speed figure, and he’ll that and more to best these, switch to Ortiz might be the ticket.
Irish War Cry 8), Motion/Maragh; three race win streak was snapped last out in the Fountain of Youth a she pressed an early pace and came up empty. Management suggested they wanted this son of Curlin to sit back, but that wasn’t the winning tactic in his two previous victories; jock change maybe the answer, but as of now it’s up to him.
