Sunday Race Selection: Woodbine’s Grade 3 Whimsical
TSV Staff Selection —-
Woodbine
Race 7) 6 Furlongs. Whimsical S. Grade III. Purse $125,000 (plus $25,000 State Bred) FOR FILLIES AND MARES, FOUR-YEAR-OLDS AND UPWARD Post Time: ( 4:19)/ 3:19/ 2:19/ 1:19
Galina Point 1), Casse/Boulanger; mare out of Saffir loves the Woodbine all-weather main, finishing in the money with 15 of her 21 starts, topped by nine place efforts, one of which was in this contest a year ago. Trainer Casse is off to a flying start here, hitting at 29 percent and with jock Boulanger, 24 percent on the year.
Euroboss 2), Stidham/Contreras; 5-year-old by Street Boss ships in from Fair Grounds where she had success over the Stall-Wilson turf course winning and showing twice, similar results can be found over Arlington’s synthetic main track. The surface switch angle for Stidham is a strong 28 percent.
Secretariat Humor 3), Attfield/Garcia; in her first North American start, Distorted Humor 5-year-old battled to best allowance foes here in April. This will be her first crack at graded company so she’ll need to increase her speed figures to threaten.
Crumlin Spirit 4), Doyle/Moran; Court Vision filly makes her 2017 debut after being on the shelf since last October. She’s had many starts at the overnight level but with mixed results; looking elsewhere.
Caren 5), De Paulo/Campbell; filly out of Society’s Chairman loves the Woodbine main finishing in the money in all nine of her starts highlighted by six wins. She didn’t much care for the Churchill turf last out, so the return to her favorite track keeps her in the win mix.
Southern Ring 6), Pierce/Da Silva; Speightstown mare won the Grade 3 Ontario Fashion here in October, and then just missed next out in the G2 Bessarabian; her last two starts were disappointing tries down at Tampa so she’ll be another looking to return to friendly territory. Always forwardly placed, and with a bullet work on the 16th, look for there again.
Skylander Girl 7), Patykewich/Hernandez; showed in 2016’s contest and followed up that effort with a May showing in the G3 Hendrie, which was her last start. Mare out of Stroll is one of many that’s had success here so she’s an exotic threat.
River Maid 8), Tiller/Husbands; 5-year-old also makes her 2017 racing debut but does so off a game win on the Bessarabian. Never out of the money in her twelve Woodbine starts, mare posts a whopping seven wins over the course; she can fire fresh and with the addition of Patrick Husbands in the irons (38 percent) she’ll be the one to beat.
