Leonel Reyes Makes Three Winner’s Circle Visits
HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – The 20-cent Rainbow 6 will offer a carryover jackpot of $698,498 Wednesday at Gulfstream Park.
The popular multi-race wager went unsolved for the 27th consecutive program Sunday, when multiple tickets with all six winners were each worth $1,054.76
The Rainbow 6 carryover jackpot is paid out only when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket sold, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.
Wednesday’s Rainbow 6 sequence will span Races 4-9, including the $50,000 Liza Jane Handicap in Race 8. Multiple stakes-winning R Angel Katelyn, who has won five of seven lifetime starts, will seek to rebound from a sixth-place finish in the Miss Preakness Stakes (G3) at Pimlico May 19. Sweet Tooth Haven, who returned from a sixth-month layoff to win an optional claiming allowance May 14 at Gulfstream, and graded stakes-placed Brahms Cat are scheduled to take on the 123-pound high weight in the six-furlong handicap for fillies and mares.
Sweetontheladies Scores in Crystal River Victory
Four Horsemen Racing Stable’s Sweetontheladies ($12.60) pressed the pace before drawing clear in deep stretch to capture Sunday’s featured ninth race, the $50,000 Crystal River.
Ridden by Marcos Meneses, the 3-year-old son of Twirling Candy collected his second stakes victory and fourth overall triumph from six career starts while running five furlongs over a sloppy track in 57.40 seconds. The overnight handicap had been originally scheduled to be run on turf.
Trained by Henry Collazo, Sweetontheladies finished 1 ¼ lengths clear of runner-up French Quarter, the 9-5 second choice who edged Extravagant Kid by three-quarters of a length. Brandy’s Girl, the 3-2 favorite, tired to finish fourth and last after setting the pace.
Three jockeys walked away from a seventh-race accident, in which Bradley’s Sunshine fell while taking the lead in the stretch, unseating jockey Nicky Figueroa. Jose Garcia and Eduardo Nunez were subsequently unseated from their mounts, Deputy Dora and Card Spun, respectively. Figueroa was then taken to Regional Memorial Hospital for further evaluation.
Leonel Reyes notched a three-bagger Sunday, scoring aboard Morichal ($5.80) in the second race, Bossyatta ($10.60) in the fifth and Lonesome Palm ($13.60) in the sixth.
