Six Keeneland Sales Graduates Entered in Belmont

LEXINGTON, KY (June 7, 2017) – Six alumni of Keeneland’s 2015 September Yearling Sale, including Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1) runner-up Lookin At Lee, are among the 12 horses entered today in the 149th running of the $1.5 million Belmont (G1) Presented by NYRA Bets on Saturday at Belmont Park.

Keeneland sales have produced 19 Belmont winners, including last year’s winner, Creator, along with 21 Kentucky Derby winners and 23 Preakness (G1) winners. That record includes this year’s Kentucky Derby winner, Always Dreaming, and Preakness winner, Cloud Computing, both also sold at the 2015 September Sale. With a Belmont victory by a sales alumnus this year, Keeneland sales will sweep the Triple Crown for the second consecutive year.

The Keeneland sales graduates entered in the Belmont are:

Gormley (Malibu Moon-Race to Urga) – Castleton Lyons and Kilboy Estate bred the Santa Anita Derby (G1), FrontRunner (G1) and Sham (G3) winner. Paramount Sales, agent, consigned the colt to the September Sale, where he was a $150,000 RNA to sale purchase by owners Jerry and Ann Moss. Gormley is trained by John Shirreffs and will be ridden by Victor Espinoza.

J Boys Echo (Mineshaft-Letgomyecho) – Albaugh Family Stables, who owns the Gotham (G3) winner in partnership with Bobby Flay, purchased him for $485,000 at the September Sale. Bred by Betz/Blackburn/J. Betz/Ramsby/CNHHNK, the colt was consigned by Betz Thoroughbreds, agent. Robby Albarado will be aboard J Boys Echo for trainer Dale Romans.

Lookin At Lee (Lookin At Lucky-Langara Lass) – Owner L and N Racing purchased the colt, fourth in the Preakness, from the consignment of Penn Sales, agent, at the September Sale. Irad Ortiz Jr. will ride the colt for trainer Steve Asmussen. Winner of the Ellis Park Juvenile, Lookin At Lee was bred by Ray Hanson.

Meantime (Shackleford-Livermore Leslie) – Silverton Hill Farm of Bonnie and Tommy Hamilton purchased the Peter Pan (G3) runner-up at the September Sale for $230,000 from the consignment of Bettersworth Westwind Farms, agent. Brian Lynch trains the colt, to be ridden by Mike Smith. He was bred by Brent Harris and Beth Harris.

Multiplier (The Factor-Trippi Street) – The Illinois Derby (G3) winner is an alumnus of two Keeneland sales. Burleson Farms, agent, consigned him as a weanling to the 2014 November Breeding Stock Sale, where he sold to Walter Bloodstock for $62,000. Hunter Valley Farm, agent, offered Multiplier at the September Sale. Brendan Walsh trains the colt for Wachtel Stable, George J. Kerr and Gary Barber. He will be ridden by Joel Rosario. Multiplier was bred by Mark Stansell.

Senior Investment (Discreetly Mine-Plaid) – Third in the Preakness after winning Keeneland’s Stonestreet Lexington (G3) on April 15, the colt races for Paul Fireman’s Fern Circle Stables. Trainer Kenny McPeek, agent, bought him for $95,000 at the September Sale from the consignment of Lane’s End, agent for breeder Dixiana Farms. Senior Investment will be ridden by Channing Hill.
