CLEVER SERVE AIMING FOR NEXT START AT ARLINGTON

Claimed by the Arlington Racing Club last month, 3-year-old filly Clever Serve returned to the worktab Wednesday with a four-furlong drill over the Polytrack at Arlington International Racecourse for trainer Wayne Catalano. The daughter of To Honor and Serve breezed in 48.40 seconds, the second best of 16 works at that distance on the morning of July 12.

“She worked well,” said Catalano. “She seemed to handle the Polytrack fine.”

Clever Serve broke her maiden by 9¾ lengths at Churchill Downs when she was claimed for the Arlington Racing Club out of the June 29 race. Catalano is pointing the filly towards a possible next start at Arlington on July 20 in a seven-furlong allowance race on the main track. The Arlington Racing Club won its first race June 17 with Catalano trainee Brisson before she was claimed away.

LOVELY LOYREE TO BYPASS INDIANA GENERAL ASSEMBLY DISTAFF

2017 Mike Spellman Memorial winner Lovely Loyree will not run Saturday in the Indiana General Assembly Distaff at Indiana Grand according to trainer Michele Boyce. Feel The Thunder Stable, Oak RockRacing, LLC, et. al’s 6-year-old daughter of Cactus Ridge won the 1 1/16 miles turf stakes last year and was entered to defend her title, but did not train to Boyce’s satisfaction Thursday and will scratch from the July 15 race.

“She had been working great, but now it seems she’s come down with a bug,” said Boyce. “She wasn’t herself training this morning, so we had to cancel our plans.”

Bred in Illinois by Barr Three LLC, Lovely Loyree has hit the board in all her stakes starts, including two third-place finishes last year in graded stakes behind Eclipse Champion Tepin. Lovely Loyree’s 2¼-length win in the Mike Spellman Memorial at Arlington International Racecourse on June 17 was her first start back since winning the 2016 Indiana General Assembly Distaff last July.
