HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – Tommy Roberts’ Conquest Big E offer his second straight dominating triumph at Gulfstream Park Sunday, coasting to a comfortable seven-length victory in the $50,000 Coast is Clear Handicap.
The 4-year-old gelding ran a mile in 1:35.10 under Jilver Chamafi, likely earning a trip to Saratoga for his next start.
Conquest Big E, a $700,000 yearling purchase at the 2014 Keeneland September Sale, was bought his current connections for $110,000 at the Conquest Stable’s dispersal at the 2016 Keeneland November Sale.
The striking gray son of Tapit, who finished fourth in the 2016 Holy Bull (G2) at Gulfstream, was making his third start for trainer Donna Green, finishing fourth April 23 before scoring by 8 ½ lengths over a sloppy track June 7 and romping to a dazzling win Sunday.
“I’m so proud of the horse. He did it so effortlessly and you could tell he’s enjoying himself out there. I think that’s been the key to his improvement,” Green said. “When I got him, he didn’t enjoy anything. We just worked with him mentally. We brought out the talent everyone knew he always had.”
Sent to post as the even money favorite in a field of six, Conquest Big E conceded one to six pounds to his five rivals while winning for the fourth time in 14 starts.
“It’s very rewarding to see him run like this,” Green said. “I’ll call and see what they have at Saratoga. I’d really like to bring him up there.
Rainbow 6 Carryover Jackpot Climbs to $350,509 for Thursday’s Card
The 20-cent Rainbow 6 will offer a carryover jackpot of $350,509 Thursday at Gulfstream Park.
The popular multi-race wager went unsolved for the 15h straight racing day Sunday, when multiple tickets with six winners were each worth $705.20.
The Rainbow 6 carryover jackpot is paid out only when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket sold, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.
Zayas, Gaffalione Each Win Three Races
Jockeys Edgard Zayas and Tyler Gaffalione each rode three races Sunday. Zayas scored aboard Athera ($44) in the first, Brandy’s Girl ($6.60) in the third and Bobby Ax ($2.60) in the sixth.
Gaffalione notched a hat trick with victories aboard Easter Vigil ($2.60) in the second, Market Strength ($3.60) in the eighth and Legendofthekitten ($4.80) in the ninth.
