Dale Romans is a favorite to the Saratoga Race Meet and At The Post Live. In 2015, Romans’s Keen Ice captured the Travers Stakes, becoming the only horse to defeat Triple Crown winner American Pharoah during his historic 3-year-old season. In a banner 2012, Romans was named the Eclipse Award Outstanding Trainer of the Year and the winner of the Big Sport of Turfdom Award with victories in major races throughout the country, including the Breeders’ Cup Turf and Arlington Million with Little Mike, the Met Mile and Clark Handicap with Shackleford, and the Blue Grass and Pacific Classic with Dullahan. Romans won his first Triple Crown race in 2011 when Shackleford took the Preakness, and that year’s Breeders’ Cup Mile with 64-1 Court Vision. Other notable horses include Kitten’s Joy, who took the 2004 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic and the Secretariat en route to the Eclipse Award Top Turf Male honors; Roses in May, winner of the 2015 Dubai World Cup and 2004 Whitney Stakes; and more recently, Brody’s Cause who has Grade 1 wins in the 2016 Blue Grass Stakes and 2105 Breeders’ Futurity. A proud Kentucky-native, Romans is two victories away from becoming the winningest trainer in Churchill Downs history, second only to the 701-wins record held by Hall of Famer Bill Mott.
Kendrick Carmouche is a multiple-graded stakes winning jockey, who has established himself as one of the top riders on the New York Racing Association circuit with more than 2,900 career victories. Prior to riding full time in New York in 2015, Carmouche captured seven riding titles at Parx. In 2016, he piloted 124 winners at NYRA tracks, totaling over $8.2 million in purse earnings. This past May, Carmouche was announced as the 2017 recipient of the Mike Venezia Memorial Award, the prestigious honor awarded to jockeys who exemplify extraordinary sportsmanship and citizenship. A native of Vinton, Louisiana, Carmouche comes from a racing family, following the professional footsteps of his father Sylvester Jr. and brother Sylvester III at age 16.
Norm Casse is the assistant trainer to Mark Casse, one of the most successful bloodstock agents, turned trainer in North America. After graduating from Bellarmine University in Louisville with a business degree, he was at a crossroad on what career move to make until accompanying his father to the 2005 Kentucky Derby with their very first Derby starter, Seaside Retreat. Under his father’s watch, and with the help of assistant trainers Ricky Griffith and David Adams, Casse took out an Assistant Trainer license in 2006. Since, he has been responsible for racing Casse Racing horses in the US, managing strings at Fairgrounds, Churchill Downs, Saratoga and Keeneland. Casse has worked hand in hand with his father during the careers of stars like Tepin and last year’s 2YO champion Classic Empire.
