Bonita Fires Fresh to Win Panama City Handicap

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – The 20-cent Rainbow 6 carryover jackpot will stand at $137,077.94 when live racing resumes at Gulfstream Park Thursday.

The popular multi-race wager went unsolved for the 11th consecutive racing day Sunday when multiple tickets with all six winners were each worth $18,488.74.

The Rainbow 6 carryover jackpot is paid out only when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket sold, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

The Rainbow 6 was last solved July 27 for a $436,076.38 jackpot.

Bonita Fires Fresh to Win Panama City Handicap

Jockey Edgard Zayas found room in deep stretch to guide Bonita ($21.20) between horses and pull off a last-to-first victory in Sunday’s $50,000 Panama City Handicap at Gulfstream Park.

The Chad Stewart-trained 4-year-old filly ran a mile on turf in 1:36.26 to score by three-quarters of a length over Josdesanimaux, who was another three-quarters of a length clear of Imperial Secret. Ocala-based Bonita had gone unraced since finishing off the board in the Christmas Past Stakes at Gulfstream May 27.

“I had her in a stake here about a month ago, but I got stopped in Ocala. They had the whole interstate shut down. It took two hours for me to go a mile and a half. By that time it was too much for her,” said Stewart, who turned around and returned to Hunter Farm.

Bonita, a Florida-bred daughter of Bluegrass Cat, gave owner Mario Silver his first stakes victory.
“I thought she’d run well. She’s been training really well,” Stewart said. “We always thought she’d be a decent filly. She had a nice little pedigree.
