FAIR GROUNDS PARTNERS WITH COVENANT HOUSE TO PROVIDE THANKSGIVING DINNER FOR AT-RISK YOUTH

NEW ORLEANS (November 24, 2017) – Executives from Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots delivered fried turkeys and sides to Covenant House to provide Thanksgiving dinner to homeless, runaway and at-risk youth in New Orleans. Covenant House opens its doors to more than 800 youth and children every year. Along with the turkeys, the donation included vegetables, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, corn bread dressing, gravy and sweet potato pie.

“We try to make each holiday a feast and try to make the holidays filled with joy,” said Jim Kelly, Executive Director at Covenant House. “Normally I say we are in the business of hope, but around the holidays we are in the business of joy. To have a meal like this prepared for them, that says to them ‘you’re worth it; we believe in you.’”

“We are pleased to have partnered with Covenant House to help provide Thanksgiving dinners for at-risk youth,” said Doug Shipley, Fair Grounds Track President and General Manager. “Covenant House does important work to ensure that the most vulnerable in our city have a safe place to stay and hot meals to eat every day of the year.”

In addition, Fair Grounds donated $5,000 to Covenant House’s annual Sleep Out fundraiser, held earlier this week.
