• Yatta defends his title as thousands enjoy an action-packed day of racing

NEW ORLEANS (March 3, 2018) – In step with beautiful spring weather at the venerable track, both patrons and their lovable four-legged friends enjoyed a memorable day of competition as Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots completed its early spring edition of Wiener Dog Racing, presented by Double M Feed, Garden and Pet Supply.

Not to disappoint, Yatta, the spirited youngster from Texas, captured her second consecutive title as fastest dachshund at the Fair Grounds. After winning her preliminary heat earlier in the day, Yatta bested Cowboy and Saint to earn the $500 top prize, proving once again that big things do come out of the Lone Star State, even in small packages.

A total of 48 wiener dogs competed over four preliminary heats, with the top three from each settling the score in the Finals. On track patrons also enjoyed nine Thoroughbred races, bouncy houses and Frencheeze, the local food truck also known for its K-9 connection.

“Today solidified the success and popularity of one of the most enjoyed novelty events here at the track, as well as in the city of New Orleans,” said Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots and Fair Grounds OTB and Casino’s president, Doug Shipley. “Thousands of track fans enjoyed an amazing card of horse and wiener dog races against the backdrop of a picturesque spring day. We are proud to offer an entertaining sports product coupled with our brand of southern hospitality here at Fair Grounds.”
