WELL-BRED BRIDLEWOOD FARM FILLIES SET TO MAKE DEBUTS SUNDAY

OLDSMAR, FL. – Students of Thoroughbred pedigrees are salivating about Sunday’s third race at Tampa Bay Downs, a $22,500 maiden special weight contest for 3-year-old fillies going a mile-and-a-sixteenth on the turf. Eight horses are entered.

The owner-trainer combination of Bridlewood Farm and Jonathan Thomas is represented by two exceptionally well-bred first-time starters in Osare, a half-sister to the 2016 Eclipse Award Champion 3-Year-Old Colt, Arrogate, and Bridlewood-homebred Paza, a daughter of Galileo out of Peace Preserver, that dam a graded-stakes winning full sister to Grade I winner Jack Milton.

If that isn’t enough to get your head spinning, wait until they take off. At least, that’s the hope of their connections.

Bred by Clearsky Farms in Kentucky, Osare (by Medaglia d’Oro, out of Bubbler, by Distorted Humor) was purchased by Bridlewood Farm for $300,000 at the 2016 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. She has amassed an impressive string of workouts for trainer Jonathan Thomas, most recently breezing 4 furlongs from the gate on April 7 at Bridlewood in Ocala in 48 4/5 seconds.

Osare will be ridden by Samy Camacho. She is the co-fourth choice at 6-1 on the morning line.
Paza has also been working well in the mornings, although not as consistently quick as Osare. She breezed 4 furlongs from the gate on April 7 in 49 1/5 seconds.

Paza, who is considered at 8-1 on the morning line, will be ridden by Ashley Castrenze.

Bridlewood purchased Peace Preserver following her racing career for $1.9-million at the 2014 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale while in foal to Galileo.

The morning-line 2-1 favorite is the Tom Albertrani-trained Too Charming, herself a half-sister to graded-stakes winner Dancing House (both out of multiple graded-stakes winner Tout Charmant). Too Charming’s pilot will be Daniel Centeno.

The retired Arrogate (by Unbridled’s Song), you’ll recall, is the sport’s all-time earnings leader, having amassed more than $17.4-million thanks in large measure to victories in the Breeders’ Cup Classic, Pegasus World Cup Invitational and Dubai World Cup Sponsored by Emirates Airlines.

A final note: The race won’t be run on paper, but those gilt edges around the Bridlewood fillies’ documents bespeak bright futures, indeed.

Around the oval. Samy Camacho, Antonio Gallardo and Daniel Centeno each rode two winners today. Camacho is on a serious roll, with 22 victories over the last nine Oldsmar racing days and an additional victory Thursday at Gulfstream.

Camacho, who has 75 victories for the meeting, won the fifth race on the turf on Thornton, a 5-year-old gelding owned by Five Aces Racing and trained by Gerald Bennett. Camacho added the eighth race, the Lambholm South Race of the Week at five-and-a-half furlongs on the main track, with His Name Is Sue, a 3-year-old Florida-bred gelding owned by Hoover Thoroughbred Racing and trained by Skip Einhorn.

His Name Is Sue is 5-for-8 and has won three in a row.

Gallardo raised his meeting-leading total to 103. He started strong in the first race, winning on Fancy Pinstripes, a 4-year-old Florida-bred filly owned by M C R Stables and trained by Benny R. Feliciano.

Fancy Pinstripes was claimed by trainer Robert R. O’Connor, II for new owner Kinsman Stable, the George Steinbrenner III family concern which bred the horse.

Gallardo added the fourth race aboard So Long Chuck, a 4-year-old Florida-bred gelding who was winning his third in a row. He is owned by Acclaimed Racing Stable and trained by Darien Rodriguez.

Centeno, who is second in the standings with 80 victories, posted a pair on the turf. He won the third race on Keep the Ring, a 3-year-old filly owned by Big Lick Farm and trained by Reid Nagle. Centeno added the seventh aboard Missouria, a 3-year-old filly owned by her breeder, Juddmonte Farms, and trained by Bill Mott.

Sunday’s nine-race card begins at 12:24 p.m. Tampa Bay Downs will conduct racing each Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday through May 6, with the exception of May 2.

The track is open every day for simulcast wagering, no-limits poker action and tournament play in The Silks Poker Room and golf fun and instruction at the Downs Golf Practice Facility.
