Monomoy Girl is 2-1 morning-line favorite

LEXINGTON, KY (April 30, 2018) – Monomoy Girl, who won Keeneland’s $500,000 Central Bank Ashland (G1) on April 7, is among the eight alumni of Keeneland’s 2016 September Yearling Sale entered today in Friday’s 144th running of the $1 million Kentucky Oaks (G1) at Churchill Downs.

Monomoy Girl is the 2-1 morning-line favorite for the Oaks, a 1 1/8-mile race for 3-year-old fillies.

Since 1994, Keeneland sales have produced 11 Kentucky Oaks winners. They include Racing Hall of Famer Ashado, Belmont (G1) winner Rags to Riches and 2017 winner Abel Tasman.

With a victory Friday, Monomoy Girl would become the 34th filly to compete in the Central Bank Ashland and win the Oaks. In 2016, Cathryn Sophia won the Oaks following a third-place finish in the Central Bank Ashland. In 2015, Lovely Maria captured the Central Bank Ashland as a steppingstone to victory in the Oaks.

Keeneland sales alumni entered in this year’s Kentucky Oaks, limited to 14 horses, are:

Chocolate Martini (Broken Vow-Nicksappealinglady) – Carl R. Moore Management purchased the Twinspire.com Fair Grounds Oaks (G2) winner for $65,000 at the September Sale from consignor Buckland Sales, agent. Tom Amoss trains Chocolate Martini, bred by Savino A. Capilupi, for Double Doors Racing. She will be ridden in the Oaks by Javier Castellano.

Classy Act (Into Mischief-Acting Class) – George Krikorian bred the Rachel Alexandra (G2) runner-up, consigned to the September Sale by Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency, agent. Owner Carl R. Moore Management paid $92,000 for Classy Act, trained by Bret Calhoun. She will be ridden by Brian Hernandez Jr.

Midnight Bisou (Midnight Lute-Diva Delite) – Winner of the Santa Anita Oaks (G1), Santa Ynez (G2) and Santa Ysabel (G3) in her past three starts, Midnight Bisou was offered by breeder Woodford Thoroughbreds at the September Sale. Bill Spawr trains the filly for Allen Racing and Bloom Racing Stable. She will be ridden by Mike Smith.

Monomoy Girl (Tapizar-Drumette) – Owned by Michael Dubb, Monomoy Stables, The Elkstone Group and Bethlehem Stables, Monomoy Girl won the Central Bank Ashland and Rachel Alexandra in her two starts this year by a combined eight lengths as the odds-on favorite in both. Bred by FPF and Highfield Ranch, Monomoy Girl was consigned to the September Sale by Gainesway, agent. She sold for $100,000 to BSW Bloodstock/Liz Crow, agent. Florent Geroux will ride Monomoy Girl for trainer Brad Cox.

My Miss Lilly (Tapit-Wicked Deed) – Owner Courtlandt Farms paid $670,000 for the Gazelle (G2) winner from the consignment of Gainesway, agent, at the September Sale. She was bred by Winchell Thoroughbreds. Mark Hennig trains My Miss Lilly, who will be ridden by Joe Bravo.

Sassy Sienna (Midshipman-Tap for Gold) – Vinery Sales, agent for breeder Haymarket Farm, consigned the Fantasy (G3) winner to the September Sale, where she sold for $65,000 to EQB for Zayat Stables. Brad Cox trains Sassy Sienna for China Horse Club, Medallion Racing and Jerry McClanahan. She will be ridden by Gary Stevens.

Take Charge Paula (Take Charge Indy-Perfect Paula) – Bred by Extern Developments, the Forward Gal (G3) winner is an alumnus of two Keeneland sales. Lane’s End, agent, consigned her as a weanling to the 2015 November Breeding Stock Sale, where she sold to E.J. Sipus Jr. for $40,000. Sipus’ Richwood South, agent, offered Take Charge Paula at the September Sale. Kiaran McLaughlin trains Take Charge Paula for Peter Deutsch. She will be ridden by Jose Ortiz.

Wonder Gadot (Medaglia d’Oro-Loving Vindication) – Eisaman Equine paid $80,000 for the Grade 2 winner, who was second by a nose in the Fantasy and third in both the Fair Grounds Oaks and Rachel Alexandra, at the September Sale from the consignment of breeder Anderson Farms, agent. Mark Casse trains Wonder Gadot for owner Gary Barber. She will be ridden by John Velazquez.

Keeneland invites fans to the track to watch and wager on the Kentucky Oaks and May 5 Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve (G1) while enjoying a variety of activities. Click here for more information and to make reservations for dining rooms and other areas.

On Oaks and Derby Days, fans also may picnic at no charge in the Paddock and Walking Ring and view the races on the large video board overlooking the Paddock or sit in the Grandstand and watch Churchill’s races on the infield tote board. TVs throughout the Grandstand also will show racing.

Admission and parking at Keeneland is free on Oaks Day. Gates open at 9 a.m. ET. First post from racing at Churchill Downs is 10:30 a.m.

From 4-7 p.m., Keeneland will host Party in the Paddock, featuring drink specials, live music with the Whiskey Bent Valley Boys and the simulcast of the Kentucky Oaks. Post time for the Oaks is approximately 6:12 p.m.

Advance wagering on the Oaks full card will be available at Red Mile only and start Thursday at 12:15 p.m.

Advance wagering on the Derby full card and Oaks-Derby Double will start Friday, May 4, when drive-thru windows at Keeneland will open at 8 a.m. Wagering will begin at Keeneland Grandstand Mutuels and Red Mile at 10 a.m.
