DAY BY DAY IMPRESSIVE IN WINNING MONMOUTH PARK FEATURE

MAY START NEXT IN $75,000 REGRET STAKES ON JUNE 17
OCEANPORT, N.J. – Day by Day, looking and acting every bit the part of a 1-2 shot, blazed to a 3-1/4-length victory in Sunday’s $42,000 featured allowance race at Monmouth Park in a performance that likely earned the 4-year-old filly her first stakes shot.
Ridden by Paco Lopez, Day by Day sped the six furlongs over a fast track in a snappy 1:09.25.
Trainer Kelly Breen said the $75,000 Regret Stakes on Sunday, June 17, at Monmouth Park topped the list of options for the Florida-bred’s next start.
“This was the most impressive race I have ever seen her run,” said Breen. “She is always consistent but she was really professional this race. I think she deserves a shot at a stakes race so the Regret is a strong possibility.”
Owned and bred by Ron Lombardi’s Mr. Amore Stable, Day by Day now has a 4-6-5 line from 17 career starts. She has never been worse than third in six starts at Monmouth Park.
The speedy daughter of Awesome of Course-Dobra broke alertly and was briefly in front but was wrangled back after an early duel with Quick Release. The two separated themselves from the three other fillies in the field before Day by Day asserted herself at the top of the stretch, drawing away easily.
She paid $3.00 to win.
The victory was Breen’s ninth from his first 19 starters at the meeting, putting him solidly in second place in the trainer standings behind Jorge Navarro. Breen captured the Monmouth Park training title in 2005 and 2006.
“Even in the years I won the title here we never had this high of a percentage,” said Breen. “We’re dotting our I’s and crossing our T’s and the right races are going for us. That doesn’t always happen.”
Live racing resumes at Monmouth Park on Saturday, June 2. Post time is 12:50 p.m.
