Stakes racing headlines opening day of the Del Mar summer meet when a full field of 3-year-olds go to post in the running of the Oceanside Stakes. It’s a one mile turf test, let’s take a look at the starters.

Del Mar

Race 8) Oceanside Stakes 3YO 1 Mile Turf Post Time 8:30 pm EDT

Arawak (1), O’Neill/Stevens; has enough to consider for bottoms of exotics.

Texas Wedge (2), Miller/Prat; one of his three wins was here as a juvenile; routes for the first time.

Pepe Tono (3), Garcia/Quinonez; closed nicely in turf debut last out; don’t think he has enough.

Artie B Good (4), Morey/Elliott; better suited for the main track.

Desert Stone (5), Baltas/Nakatani; enters on a 2-race win streak, the last at this distance; could bring a solid price.

Shain Zain (6), O’Neill/Gutierrez; returns to turf where he’s had no success.

Restrainedvengence (7), Brinkerhoff/Roman; blinkers come off after faltering in the stretch last out; solid work tab.

Faversham (8), Sherman/Pereira; exits his maiden score going today’s route.

Move Over (9), Sadler/Baze; has finished across the board in his last three, exits a win going down the SA hill; turning into a solid turf player.

Calexman (10), Cerin/Franco; his maiden win came here back in November and has put together a pair of strong efforts down the hill at Santa Anita; a win threat.

Heartforofstars (11), D’Amato/Gonzalez; back-to-back thirds going down the hill in losing to a couple of these.

SCRATCHED Soltero (12), D’Amato/Talamo; loved how he closed in his last two, a second and a neck score at this distance at SA.

Afleet Ascent (13), Hollendorfer/Desormeaux; a maiden winner here, connections trying to figure where this one belongs.

Respect the Hustle (14), McLean/Conner; major class-test; not enough.

ALSO ELIGIBLE:

More Honor (15), Glatt/Pereira; needs the hill to compete.

Risky Proposition (16), Glatt/Talamo; ditto

Selections: 5, 10, 9, 13
