Who:

In a reversal of roles, veteran trainer Dale Romans will be interviewing Serling, this Thursday on At The Post Live. Roman, best known for winning the 2011 Preakness Stakes with Shackleford and the Breeders’ Cup Turf with Little Mike, also upset American Pharoah in the 2015 Travers Stakes with Keen Ice. Among his most successful horses, Kitten’s Joy won the Grade 1 Secretariat Stakes and Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Invitational in 2004, and was named that year’s American Champion Male Turf Horse. In 2005, Roses in May provided Romans with the biggest payday of his career to date when he won the $6 million Dubai World Cup. He collected his first Breeders’ Cup win in 2009 when Tapitsfly won the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf. Romans received the industry’s prestigious Eclipse Award for Outstanding Trainer for a banner 2012 season, with four horses winning multiple Grade One races—Little Mike, Dullahan, Shackleford and Tapitsfly. Romans was also selected as the winner of the 2012 Big Sport of Turfdom Award.

Boyd Browning is the President and CEO of Fasig-Tipton, North America’s oldest Thoroughbred auction company. Fasig-Tipton’s Saratoga sale of selected yearlings is one of the premier horse auctions in the world. It has roots that stretch back to 1917 when Fasig-Tipton formed an alliance with some of the top Kentucky breeders to sell their yearlings during the race meet in upstate New York. The great Man o’ War sold as a yearling at the 1918 Saratoga sale. The Saratoga sale has produced numerous household names for international horsemen, such as Raise a Native, Natalma, Hoist the Flag, Danzig, Miswaki, Conquistador Cielo, and two-time champion filly Open Mind. The list continues as 1991 Horse of the Year Black Tie Affair, ‘93 Belmont Stakes winner Colonial Affair, ‘94 Kentucky Derby winner Go For Gin, ‘94 champion mare Sky Beauty, 2002 champion two-year-old male Vindication, ‘03 champion three-year-old male Funny Cide (New York-bred sale), and ‘05 Horse of the Year Saint Liam all emerged from the venerable New York sale grounds. This year’s Saratoga sale will be held on Aug. 6 and 7.

Glen Kozak, as Vice President of Facilities & Racing Surfaces, oversees NYRA’s $50 million operating budget that includes the maintenance of Belmont Park, Saratoga Race Course and Aqueduct Racetrack including all 14 racing surfaces and fleet equipment. Additionally, he is responsible for directing NYRA’s capital investment projects geared to developing long-term investment strategies that improve its operational efficiency and safety measures. Kozak joined NYRA in 2008 as the Director of Racing Surfaces and assumed his current role in 2011. During his tenure, NYRA has enhanced and upgraded nearly every aspect of its facility and racing surface operations such that today, its racing surfaces are considered among the best in the industry.
