Prendimi, Ebony Ball and Lost Princess win Jersey-bred allowances at Monmouth on Sunday

HEAVILY FAVORED PRENDIMI WINS CO-FEATURED ALLOWANCE;
EBONY BALL ROMPS IN DISTAFF SPRINT FOR JERSEY-BREDS

OCEANPORT, N.J. – Heavily-favored Prendimi showed no ill effects from being wheeled back in a week, breaking alertly and then outclassing the field to win one of a trio of featured $50,000 allowances for Jersey-breds on Sunday at Monmouth Park.

Sent off as the overwhelming 1-5 favorite in the field of six, Prendimi again showed his affinity for the Monmouth Park surface, improving to a 2-1-1 line from four starts at the track this year. He beat So Good by a well-measured length, covering the mile in 1:39.75. It was another neck back to Best Choice in third.

“He ran really good He’s still a little immature when he gets to the front and opens up because he waits for other horses,” said winning trainer Luis Carvajal. “So that’s something he needs to grow out of.”

The 3-year-old gelded son of Dance With Ravens-Cigno d’Oro, owned by G.J. Stable, was never really asked to exert himself after breaking alertly and setting comfortable fractions for jockey Chris DeCarlo.

“He’s the type of horse who loves company. When you ask him to open up he just starts goofing around,” said DeCarlo. “I knew what I had underneath me the whole time.”

Prendimi now sports a 2-2-3 line from eight career starts.

In the first of the two distaff co-features, both $50,000 allowances for Jersey-breds, Ebony Ball survived a four-horse scramble for the early lead and then accelerated heading into the turn before drawing off to a 6¼-length victory.

Lost Princess, the 6-5 second choice in a field of five, then capped the card with a 1½-length victory in the third and final $50,000 allowance, showing early speed and then late stamina in the one-mile event.

Sent off at 5-2 in the field of seven, Ebony Ball paid $7.40 to win. The 5-year-old daughter of Park Avenue Ball-Etna covered the six furlongs in 1:10.23 in winning for the fourth time in 14 career starts.

“She has speed if you ask her for it and they weren’t going that fast early so she was with that group going for the lead,” said winning rider Jairo Rendon. “I wasn’t worried because she did it so comfortably.”

Trained by Rory Huston and owned by Colonial Farm, Ebony Ball now has a 3-3-1 line from nine career starts at Monmouth Park, with two of those victories coming at the current meeting.

Favored Blank Paige was second, a half-length better than Single Broad in third.

Lost Princess, trained by John Mazza and owned by Holly Crest Farm, was involved in an early speed duel with Twofour Six Oh One, but drew away from that one in the middle of the final turn and proved to be much the best. Postino’s Secret rallied for second, a neck ahead of 3-5 favorite Powergirl.

Albin Jimenez was the winning rider aboard Lost Princess, who returned $4.40 to win. The winning time was 1:40.33.

Racing resumes on Thursday at Monmouth Park with a first race post time of 1:15 p.m.

JERSEY SHORE 6 CARRYOVER AT $219,329 FOR THURSDAY’S CARD

The jackpot and drama continued to grow in the Jersey Shore Pick 6 with a record carryover of $219,329 awaiting handicappers when racing resumes on Thursday at Monmouth Park after the wager failed to produce a single winner to take down the whole pool during Sunday’s card.

The 20-cent bet pays out the entire pool only if there is a single winner.

Correctly selecting six winners on Sunday’s program returned $154.08 for 20 cents.

Heavily-favored Prendimi ($2.40) started the sequence in the 5th race, followed by Zeus Odin ($4.60) in the 6th race, Ebony Ball ($7.40) in the 7th race, Tanda’s Joy ($7.40) in the 8th race, She’s Stunning ($4.80) in the 9th race and Lost Princess ($4.40) in the 10th and final race.

The Jersey Shore Pick 6 will start in the third race on Thursday. First race post is 1:15 p.m. for the eight-race card.
