HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – One bettor took down the 20-cent Rainbow 6 pool Thursday at Gulfstream for $86,193.66 with a $76.80 ticket.
The winning numbers were 8-5-9-5-9-3. The ticket was played at Gulfstream Park.
The winning ticket was: 5,8/2-3,5,8/7,9/2,4-6//3-4,9/3,9
The Rainbow 6 was last hit Friday when a bettor in Las Vegas took down the life-changing wager for $734,403 with a $453.60 ticket.
The carryover jackpot is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners.
On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.
The Rainbow 6 sequence begins again Friday with the fifth race on a 10-race program with a first race post of 2 p.m. The fourth race of the afternoon will feature the return of Gunnevera, making his first start since March when he finished eighth in the Dubai World Cup.
Thursday’s Late Pick 5 returned $44,678.45.
There will be a Super Hi 5 carryover Friday of $2,403.91.
Dennis Ward Saddles 1000th (and 1001th) Career Winner Thursday at Gulfstream
Dennis Ward notched the 1000th victory of his training career Thursday at Gulfstream Park, saddling Greely Is Back for a half-length score in the fifth race.
Ward came right back in the sixth to saddle winner Dreaming of J C, who won by three lengths. Both winners are owned by Ridenjac Racing.
Ward, the father of former Eclipse Award-winning apprentice jockey and current international trainer Wesley Ward, has been training horses since 1983. The 71-year-old native of Seattle started as a jockey at Longacres in Washington State in 1962 before retiring in 1968, a week after his son was born.
Ward worked as a jockey’s agent and valet before becoming a trainer. His son, upon retiring from riding in 1989, served as Ward’s assistant before going out on his own in 1991.
Curlin’s Approval Entered for Sunday’s $75,000 Sugarloaf Key
A field of six, including multiple graded-stakes winner Curlin’s Approval, were entered for Sunday’s $75,000 Sugarloaf Key at a distance of six furlongs.
Winner of the 2017 Royal Delta (G2) and Hurricane Bertie (G3), Curlin’s Approval will making her first start for trainer Happy Alter since a fourth-place finish June 30 in the Princess Rooney (G2). The 5-year-old daughter of Curlin, owned by Alter Racing and Bridlewood Farm, has won eight of 19 races and has bankrolled over $600,000.
Too Much Tip, trained by Alexis Cordero-Lopez, last raced in October when finishing fourth at Keeneland in an allowance optional claimer. The 4-year-old daughter of Too Much Bling was fifth that summer in the Victory Ride (G3) at Belmont and fourth in the Adena Springs Miss Preakness (G3).
