LEXINGTON, Ky. (October 8, 2018) – Hronis Racing LLC’s Accelerate, the dominant older horse in North America, closed as the 3-1 favorite in the Breeders’ Cup Classic Future Wager #2, and Prince Khalid Abdullah’s Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (G1) winner, Enable (GB), closed as the 2-1 favorite in the Longines Breeders’ Cup Turf Future Wager on Sunday evening.
Sunday’s results concluded three rounds of Breeders’ Cup Future Wagering on the World Championships, which will take place at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky on Nov. 2-3.
The Breeders’ Cup Classic Future Wager #2 consisted of 19 unique wagering interests and one “All Others” wager for a total of 20 betting interests. The Longines Breeders’ Cup Turf Future Wager pool consisted of 13 unique wagering interests and one “All Others” wager for a total of 14 betting interests. “All Others” included all Thoroughbreds other than the pool’s individual horses.

The Breeders’ Cup Future Wagers enabled fans to bet on possible contenders for select Breeders’ Cup World Championships races well in advance of the World Championships. Odds on horses in the pools could wind up being more attractive than those available on the two days of Championship racing. The wager was $2 minimum bet and was a win wager only.
Accelerate ($8.80), a 5-year-old son of Lookin At Lucky trained by John Sadler, has won 5 of 6 starts this year, including Grade 1 scores in the Santa Anita Handicap, Gold Cup at Santa Anita and the TVG Pacific Classic. Accelerate also closed as the 3-1 favorite in the first Breeders’ Cup Classic Future Wager #1 on Aug. 26.
Two Bob Baffert-trained stars followed Accelerate in the Breeders’ Cup Classic Future Wager #2. Mike Pegram, Karl Watson and Paul Weitman’s 3-year-old McKinzie ($14.20), winner of the Pennsylvania Derby (G1) and Gary and Mary West’s 4-year-old West Coast ($15.40), who finished second to Accelerate in the Awesome Again, both closed at 6-1. Robert La Penta, Madaket Stables, Siena Farm and Twin Creeks Racing Stables’ Travers Stakes (G1) winner, the 3-year-old Catholic Boy ($16.00), is listed next at 7-1. WinStar Farm, China Horse Club International, SF Racing and Head of Plains Partners’ 4-year-old Yoshida (JPN) ($20.80), winner of Saratoga’s Woodward Stakes (G1), is next at 9-1, followed by the 3-year-old Mendelssohn ($23.80), second in the Travers Stakes (G1) and third in the Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1), at 10-1.
Godolphin’s 4-year-old Thunder Snow (IRE) ($29.20), winner of the Dubai World Cup (G1) and runner-up in the Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1) at Belmont Park, follows at 13-1.
In the Longines Breeders’ Cup Turf Future Wager, Enable ($6.60), who repeated as the Arc de Triomphe winner with just one prep race, opened Friday as the even-money favorite. Enable is followed by the “All Others” mutuel field ($9.60) at 7-2. Convento Viejo LLC’s 4-year-old Robert Bruce (CHI) ($16.20), winner of the Arlington Million (G1) and second in the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic (G1) at Belmont Park, is slotted next at 7-1 and followed at 8-1 by Qatar Racing Ltd.’s 3-year-old multiple European Group 1 winner Roaring Lion ($19.20), who captured the Coral Eclipse (G1), the Juddmonte International (G1) and QIPCO Irish Champion Stakes (G1). Wachtel Stable and Gary Barber’s Channel Maker ($20.60), a front-running winner of the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic, is next at 9-1 followed by defending Breeders’ Cup Turf winner Talismanic (GB) ($23.40), 13th in the Arc de Triomphe, who closed at 10-1.
In the first Breeders’ Cup Future Book Wagers on the Breeders’ Cup Classic and the Longines Breeders’ Cup Distaff, which closed on Aug. 26, Accelerate and 3-year-old filly Monomoy Girl, owned by Michael Dubb, Monomoy Stables, the Elkstone Group and Bethlehem Stable, closed as 3-1 favorites in their respective pools. In the second pool, which consisted of the Sentient Jet Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Future Wager and the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Sires Future Wager, which closed on Sept. 2, OXO Equine LLC’s Instagrand was the 7-2 favorite in Juvenile Future Wager and the “All Others” mutuel field closed as the 4-1 favorite in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Sires Future Wager.
