BC JUVENILE FILLIES CHOICE BELLAFINA WORKS IN 47:40
Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies favorite Bellafina (video) worked four furlongs at 8:05 Thursday morning in 47.40 for the 1 1/16-mile, $2 million event at Churchill Downs on Nov. 2.
“It was really good,” trainer Simon Callaghan said of the bay daughter of Quality Road, owned by Kaleem Shah. “She galloped out in a minute and change and she looked like she wanted to keep going, so it was just what we were looking for.
“She will leave (for Kentucky) early tomorrow morning and we’ll just gallop her into the race. She’ll paddock school and go to the gate one of the days. She’s fit; she’s ready.”
Bellafina will be ridden by Flavien Prat, who has been aboard in her previous four races, winning the last three in a row, including the Grade I Chandelier Stakes at Santa Anita Sept. 29 by 6 ½ lengths.
After finishing second in her first start last July 4 at Los Alamitos as the 1-2 favorite, Bellafina won her next four by a combined margin of 15 lengths.
An $800,000 purchase at the March Fasig-Tipton Sales, she has earned $488,000.

CLASSIC FAVORITE ACCELERATE TO DRILL SATURDAY
Multiple Grade I winner Accelerate will have his final local workout Saturday for the $6 million Breeders’ Cup Classic on Nov. 3.
“He’ll go three-quarters, probably at 6:30,” trainer John Sadler said of the pre-race favorite. Assistant trainer Juan Leyva will be aboard.
Nineteen horses were pre-entered yesterday for the 1 ¼ mile Classic.
“It doesn’t surprise me,” Sadler said of the abundance of aspirants. “It’s the Breeders’ Cup, so those races usually fill up, although the Classic generally doesn’t get that many, but it’s just one of those years, I guess.”
Often a fixture at the Breeders’ Cup, Victor Espinoza will be watching the races from San Diego this year, recovering from a fractured vertebra suffered in a training mishap at Del Mar on July 22.
The 46-year-old Hall of Fame member was the regular rider of Accelerate. Sadler has stayed in touch.
“I spoke with him last week,” Sadler said “He sounded good. What you don’t want to do is ask him when are you coming back? It was just a friendly hi, how are you discussion, with a few inside jokes about him.
“I just wanted to keep it positive and light. He sounded good and he’s progressing.”

BALTAS HAS THREE FOR THE MONEY IN AUTUMN MISS
Richard Baltas has three horses entered in Saturday’s Grade III Autumn Miss Stakes for three-year-old fillies at a mile on turf, two of them drawing the extreme outside post positions, not necessarily enviable spots.
“I’m not too happy with the draws,” the trainer said in all candor Thursday morning. “Going a mile, that’s not good,” he said referring to Flammetta, who drew post position 13, and Hey Negrita, who drew the far outside at No. 14. Ms Bad Behavior, on the other hand, breaks from post four.
“She’s in a good spot and is a very talented horse,” Baltas said of the daughter of Zenyatta conqueror Blame, graded stakes placed but seeking her first graded victory in the Autumn Miss. “Flammetta is coming back after a short rest (last raced July 21) and Hey Negrita drew the 14 hole.
“All the horses are training well. I’m just a little concerned about the post positions.”

TODAY’S 20 CENT SINGLE TICKET JACKPOT AT $724,807
For the 15th consecutive racing day, Santa Anita’s popular 20 cent Single Ticket Jackpot Pick Six went unsolved Sunday, creating a Single Ticket Jackpot carryover of $724,807 into Thursday’s eight-race program.
With a Jackpot carryover of $662,512 priming the pari-mutuel pump, there was $272,095 in “new money” bet into Sunday’s Jackpot, making for a total pool of $934,607, which resulted in 14 winning tickets with six winners, each worth $10,604.40.
First post time Thursday is 1 p.m., while approximate post time for Thursday’s third race, leg one in the Rainbow Six, is 2 p.m. PT.

FINISH LINES: Also working Thursday for the Breeders’ Cup were Anonymity (video) (Filly & Mare Sprint, five furlongs in company with Retro for Richard Mandella), and La Force (Filly & Mare Turf, five furlongs for Paddy Gallagher in 1:00.20). Flavien Prat was aboard Anonymity, who was clocked in 1:0020. Retro was timed in 1:01.40 . . . Breeders’ Cup Classic outsider Pavel is scheduled to work seven furlongs for Doug O’Neill before Friday’s first race, at approximately 12:25. . .
