Saturday’s Rainbow 6 Sequence Offers Five Stakes

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – Baseline testing was conducted on jockeys Friday at Gulfstream Park as part of its concussion protocol procedures.

The tests, used to assess an athlete’s balance, memory skills and ability to focus and solve problems, were conducted by members of Baptist Health South Florida and Dr. Michael Swartzon, who works with the Miami Dolphins of the National Football League, Miami-Dade Public Schools and the Florida Panthers of the National Hockey League.

Jockeys provided medical histories, answered questions and were provided information on concussions and symptoms associated with head injuries.

“The health of our athletes, both human and equine, is a priority for us,” said Gulfstream’s General Manager Bill Badgett. “By establishing baselines we can be well prepared with the necessary information and data in case one of our riders has an accident in the morning or afternoon. It’s also important that we all understand the symptoms and warning signs of head injuries.”

Saturday’s Rainbow 6 Sequence Offers Five Stakes

The 20-cent Rainbow 6 went unsolved Friday at Gulfstream Park the day after a lucky bettor hit the jackpot for a $288,350.74 payoff. The jackpot carryover stands at $25,075.48 for Saturday’s 11 race program (Noon first-race post time).

Multiple tickets with all six winners Friday were each worth $4,875.78.

The carryover jackpot is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

Saturday’s Rainbow 6 sequence will span Races 6-11, including five turf stakes. The $100,000 Abundantia will kick off the sequence, followed by a maiden special weight race for Florida-bred 2-year-olds, the $75,000 Tropical Park Oaks, $75,000 Via Borghese, the $100,000 H. Allen Jerkens and the $75,000 Tropical Park Derby.

The $100,000 Janus, a five-furlong turf stakes featuring Pay Any Price’s bid for a fifth straight victory and fourth stakes win in a row, has been carded as Race 4.

There will also be a Super Hi-5 carryover of $3,713.49 heading into Saturday’s program.
Who’s Hot: Two-time defending Championship Meet titlist Luis Saez rode three winners – Southern Toddy ($820) in Race 4, Salt Pond ($7.20) in Race 6, and Blasphemy ($6.40) in Race 10.

Edgard Zayas rode his 200th winner of the year, guiding Elizabeth’s Vow ($23.40) to victory in Race 1.
