HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – In his first Championship Meet as trainer for Colts Neck Stables, Jorge Duarte Jr. has made the most of his opportunity, saddling four winners from eight starters.

The 34-year-old former jockey and longtime assistant to Alan Goldberg visited the Gulfstream Park winner’s circle Wednesday with No Fly Zone ($11.20), who captured the first race under Roberto Alvarado Jr.

“Alan is like the racing manager this winter. He’s not on days like some people may think. When he hired me five years ago, it was his plan for me to get my feet wet as his assistant and later on he’d start retiring,” Duarte said. “He might still run some horse in his name this spring, but right now I’m calling the shots.”

Duarte and Goldberg have had a long association.

“We make a good team. As a jockey, I rode a lot of winners for him. I rode my first winner and my last winner – first winner in New York in November 2000 and my last winner at Belmont in 2010 in May,” said Duarte, who 424 winners from 3921 mounts. “Same owners, same connections. The team is still together.”

The son of a jockey, Duarte, a U.S. citizen who was born in Columbia, grew up in nearby Miramar, FL.

Rainbow 6 Carryover Jackpot Grows to $157,694

The 20-cent Rainbow 6 went unsolved for a fourth straight racing day at Gulfstream Park Wednesday, producing a carryover jackpot of $157,694.87 for Thursday’s program

Multiple tickets will all six winner were each worth $8,117.60.

The popular multi-race wager was hit for a $188,900.81 jackpot payoff Dec. 9. After going unsolved for the first 12 programs of the 2018-2019 Championship Meet, there have been five jackpots paid out. The popular multi-race wager was solved Dec. 19 for a $580,349.19 jackpot, Dec. 27 for $288,350.74, Dec. 30 for $177,317.98 and Jan. 4 for $166,317 prior to Wednesday’s jackpot hit.

The carryover jackpot is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

There will also be a Super Hi 5 jackpot in the first race of $3,155.97.

Who’s Hot: Leading jockey Luis Saez made four visits to the winner’s circle Wednesday after scoring aboard Trapped At Sea ($11) in Race 2, Arch of Troy ($6.60) in Race 3, Chatiment ($42.40) in Race 7 and Unoffensive ($11.60). The two-time defending Champion Meet champion, who set a record with 137 winners last season, currently tops the standings with 52 wins.
