Well-Bred Graceful Princess Makes Return in Thursday Feature

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – The 20-cent Rainbow 6 went unsolved for the 16th consecutive racing day Wednesday, growing the carryover jackpot to $906,158.40 for Thursday’s 11-race program.

First race post time is noon.

A total of $262,574 was bet into the popular multi-race wager, which began with a carryover of $843,158 from Sunday’s card. Multiple tickets with all six winners Wednesday were each worth $167.06.

The carryover jackpot is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

Since the 2018-19 Championship Meet kicked off Dec. 1, the Rainbow 6 has been hit five times, most recently for a $188,900.81 payout Jan. 9.

Both of Thursday’s features are part of the Rainbow 6 sequence, which spans Races 6-11. Whisper Hill Farm’s regally homebred Graceful Princess makes her long-awaited return in Race 7, a $51,000 optional claiming allowance for 3-year-old fillies going a mile on the main track.

Trained by Ralph Nicks, Graceful Princess is by Grade 1 winner and leading sire Tapit out of the Saint Liam mare Havre de Grace. Saint Liam was Horse of the Year in 2005, and Havre de Grace earned the honor herself in 2011.

Graceful Princess won her only career start, a seven-furlong maiden special weight Sept. 2 at Saratoga, taking a commanding lead into the stretch and hitting the wire 1 ¾ lengths in front.
Tyler Gaffalione will ride from Post 6 of 7 as the 2-1 second choice on the morning line behind Queen of Beas, a maiden winner Jan. 6 at Gulfstream.

Race 9 is a $51,000 entry-level optional claimer for 3-year-old fillies going five furlongs on the turf that attracted a field of eight. Lady Magica, beaten a neck in a similar spot Dec. 15 in her grass debut, is the narrow 3-1 program favorite over stakes-tested Starship Nala, second in the FSS Susan’s Girl and My Dear Girl and Juvenile Fillies Sprint in successive starts to cap her 2-year-old season.

Who’s Hot: Irad Ortiz Jr. posted a riding triple Wednesday, with Lucky Long ($6.40) in Race 1, McErin ($3.40) in Race 9 and More Mo ($3.60) in Race 10. Championship Meet leader Luis Saez also rode back-to-back winners, aboard Argonne ($7) in Race 7 and Eclipsed Moon ($9.40) in Race 8.
