HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – The 20-cent Rainbow 6 went unsolved for the 17th consecutive racing day Thursday, growing the carryover jackpot o $976,699.44 for Friday’s 11-race program.

First race post time is noon.

A total of $294,009 was bet into the popular multi-race wager, which began with a carryover of $906,158.40 from Wednesday’s card. Multiple tickets with all six winners Thursday were each worth $9,820.74

The carryover jackpot is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners.
On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

Since the 2018-19 Championship Meet kicked off Dec. 1, the Rainbow 6 has been hit five times, most recently for a $188,900.81 payout Jan. 9.

There will also be a Super Hi-5 carryover of $6.172.23 heading into Friday’s card.

Maragh, Montalvo Injured in First-Race Spill

Jockeys Romero Maragh and Carlos Montalvo were injured in a spill during the running of the first race Thursday at Gulfstream Park.

Maragh, whose mount Classic Act fell to the turf after clipping heels, was transported to Aventura Hospital, where it was determined he has two broken vertebrae. The leading apprentice jockey has full movement of his extremities.

Montalvo, who was unseated when his mount Prospective Moment jumped over the fallen Classic Act, sustained a hairline fracture in his right ankle.

Bellavais among 20 Noms for Feb. 9 Suwannee River (G3)

Bortolazzo Stable LLC’s Bellavais, who captured the Jan. 12 Marshua’s River (G3) at Gulfstream Park, is among 20 nominations for the $150,000 Suwannee River (G3) at Gulfstream Park Feb. 9.

Trained by Todd Pletcher, the 5-year-old daughter of Tapit, stalked the early pace in the Marshua’s River, a 1 1/16-mile turf race for fillies and mares, before drawing away to a 3 ½-length victory.

Graded-stakes winners Holy Helena, Goodyearforroses and Princesa Coqueta were also nominated for the Suwanee River, a 1 1/8-mile turf race for fillies and mares.

The 72nd running of the Suwanee River will co-headline the Feb. 9 card with the $100,000 El Prado, a 7 ½-furlong turf stakes for older horses that attracted 28 nominations.

Multiple Grade 1 stakes winner Heart to Heart is prominent among the nominees. The Brian Lynch-trained Heart to Heart finished third in his 2019 debut, overcoming a troubled start to finish third in the Tropical Turf (G3).

Graded-stakes winners Qurbaan and Hembree have also been nominated to the El Prado.

Edgard Zayas Hopeful for March Return

Jockey Edgard Zayas, who had surgery Dec. 31 to repair a broken femur in his right leg, visited the Gulfstream jockey’s room Thursday afternoon.

“One month and I’m walking,” Zayas said. “I feel good, everything is going well.”

Zayas, a leading jockey in South Florida since arriving from Puerto Rico is 2012, said he hopes to be riding by March.

Who’s Hot: Brothers Jose Ortiz and Irad Ortiz Jr. combined for seven victories on Thursday’s 11-race program.

Jose scored four straight wins, winning aboard Math Wizard ($5.80) in Race 4, Radiantrithym ($10.40) in Race 5, Souper Scat Daddy ($3.80) in Race 6 and Queen of Beas ($4) in Race 7.

Irad scored aboard Cocktail Skirt ($3.60) in Race 1, Glorious Mystery ($4.40) in Race 3, and Bella’s Game ($9.80) in Race 8.

Leading trainer Jorge Navarro saddled two winners: Be a Hero ($2.60) in Race 2 and Radiantrithym.

Super Hi-5 Carryover: $6,172.23
