Thursday’s Rainbow 6 Carryover Jackpot Soars to $1.6 Million
Opening Lead Winner Fast Pass Targeting June 29 Smile (G3)
Salute the Colonel Outclasses Home of Brave Field
HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – A life-changing 20-cent Rainbow 6 carryover jackpot of $1,649,859.45 will be up for grabs on Thursday’s program at Gulfstream Park.
The popular multi-race wager went unsolved for the 35nd consecutive racing day Monday, when multiple tickets with six winners were each worth $2,800.32.
The carryover jackpot is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.
A total of $358,845 was wagered into the Rainbow 6 Monday, when wagering on the six-race sequence started with a carryover of $1,563,761 from Sunday’s card.
Opening Lead Winner Fast Pass Targeting June 29 Smile (G3)
Paradise Farms Corp. and Walder Racing’s Fast Pass, a most impressive winner of the Opening Lead Stakes Sunday, will be pointed to the $250,000 Smile Sprint (G3) on the June 29 Summit of Speed program at Gulfstream Park.
“The Smile is six-furlongs, so we’re definitely pointing for it,” trainer Peter Walder said Monday morning while reporting that the 6-year-old gelding exited his length triumph over odds-on favorite Cautious Giant in the six-furlong Opening Lead in good order.
Fast Pass settled well off the early pace before making a sweeping move on the turn into the stretch under jockey Miguel Vasquez and continuing on to complete six furlongs in 1:10.02.
Salute the Colonel Outclasses Home of Brave Field
Patricia Generazio’s Salute the Colonel dropped from graded-stakes company to capture Monday’s $60,000 Home of the Brave, a 1 ½-mile turf starter stakes, at Gulfstream Park.
The 5-year-old gelded son of Colonel John ($5.40), who finished off the board in the Pan American (G2) in his prior start, found the competition more to his liking in the Home of the Brave. Salute the Colonel was rated off the pace by jockey Jairo Rendon as Marshall Eddy showed the way on an uncontested pace under Samy Camacho into the stretch.
Salute the Colonel swept into contention on the turn into the homestretch and gradually wore down the pacesetter to win by 1 ¼ lengths. The Joe Orseno-trained gelding ran 1 ½ miles in 2:28.89.
