Friday’s Rainbow 6 Carryover Jackpot Tops $1.7 Million
Twilight Friday Racing Kicks off with 2:15 p.m. First Post
Jalen Journey Zips A Mile in Dominant Feature Victory
HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – The Twilight racing season will be kicked off Friday with a nine-race program that will offer betters the opportunity to make a life-changing score in the 20-cent Rainbow 6.
The popular multi-race wager went unsolved for the 36th consecutive racing day Thursday, producing a carryover jackpot of $1,718,182.66 for Friday’s card, which gets under way at 2:15 p.m. Tickets with six winners Thursday were each worth $10,328.64.
The carryover jackpot is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.
A total of $285,628 was wagered into the Rainbow 6 Thursday, when wagering on the six-race sequence started with a carryover of $1,649,859.45 from Monday’s card.
There will also be a Super Hi 5 carryover of $2,422.89 into Friday’s first race.
Gulfstream’s seventh and ninth races, both turf events, will be part of the Stronach 5, which will have a $100,000 guaranteed pool and an industry-low 12-percent takeout.
Jalen Journey Zips a Mile in Dominant Feature Victory
Commonwealth Stable’s Jalen Journey zipped a mile in 1:34.47 to score a dominating seven-length triumph Thursday at Gulfstream Park while winning the Race 8 feature.
The Kathleen O’Connell-trained 4-year-old gelding set swift and uncontested fractions of 22.95 (seconds), 44.95, 1:09.22 and 1:22.66 under Edgard Zayas on his way to his third straight blowout victory.
“He kind of surprised me. After breaking pretty sharp out of the gate and taking the lead he relaxed himself. I never thought I was going that fast, but when I came back and saw the fractions, I said, ‘Wow!’” Zayas said. “He was doing it so nice and easy on the front end. When I asked him to go in the stretch, he just took off and finished strong.”
Jalen Journey finished fourth in his debut at Gulfstream Park West last fall before being transferred to O’Connell, who saddled the son of With Distinction for back-to-back victories during the Championship Meet, breaking his maiden at six furlongs by 5 ¾ lengths March 8 and capturing a seven-furlong optional claiming allowance by 4 ½ lengths March 30.
