Gulfstream-based Imprimis Set for Tuesday Start at Royal Ascot
HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – The 20-cent Rainbow 6 carryover jackpot climbed to $2,544,245 for Thursday’s program at Gulfstream Park when the popular multi-race wager went unsolved for the 48th consecutive racing day Sunday.
Multiple tickets with all six winners were each worth $12,532.92.
The carryover jackpot is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.
A total of $246,241 was bet into the Rainbow Sunday, when wagering on the six-race sequence started with a carryover of $2,485,161.25 from Saturday’s program.
Stormy Embrace Breezes for Title Defense in June 29 Princess Rooney
Matalona Thoroughbreds, LLC’s Stormy Embrace prepared for a title defense in the $250,000 Princess Rooney (G2) Sunday morning, breezing a comfortable five furlongs in 1:03.40 over the sloppy track at Gulfstream Park West.
The Princess Rooney, a seven-furlong Breeders’ Cup ‘Win and You’re In’ sprint for fillies and mares, will co-headline the June 29 Summit of Speed card with the $250,000 Smile Sprint (G3) at Gulfstream.
Stormy Embrace most recently came off a four-month freshening to defend her title in the May 18 Musical Romance Stakes, scoring by 10 ½ lengths over Lady’s Island, who came back to dominate the Nicole’s Dream Stakes by nine lengths. The Kathleen O’Connell-trained 5-year-old mare ran seven furlongs in a sharp 1:21.51 in the key prep for the Princess Rooney.
Last year, Stormy Embrace won the Musical Romance on her way to capturing the Princess Rooney by six lengths to earn a berth in the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (G1) at Churchill Downs. After finishing off-the-board at Churchill, she returned to finish behind multiple-stakes winner Dream Pauline twice during the Championship Meet, losing a photo finish in the Dec. 15 Sugar Swirl (G3) and checking in third in the Hurricane Bertie (G3).
Gulfstream-based Imprimis Set for Tuesday Start at Royal Ascot
Breeze Easy, LLC’s Imprimis, who is based at Gulfstream Park with trainer Joe Orseno, is scheduled to run in the King’s Stand (G1) on Tuesday’s opening day card at Royal Ascot.
Imprimis is 2-for-2 this year, having won the Silks Run Stakes at Gulfstream by 3 ½ lengths off a six-month layoff before overcoming a stumbling start to capture the Shakertown (G2) at Keeneland April 6. The 5-year-old son of Broken Vow has breezed three times at Gulfstream before embarking on the cross-Atlantic journey.
International superstar Frankie Dettori has accepted the mount aboard Imprimis, who is slated to meet 12 opponents in the five-furlong turf stakes, including Blue Point, Battaash and Mabs Cross, the 1-2-3 finishers last year.
