ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (September 6, 2019) –
Lothenbach Stables Mom’s Red Lipstick will look to go two for two in her young career as she comes into Saturday off an impressive debut win at Arlington in July. The 2-year-old daughter of Race Day covered the five-furlong distance in 59.1 seconds sprinting home to beat seven others.
“Going into that first race I wasn’t sure what to expect,” trainer Chris Block said.” “She showed ability there but I was more impressed with how she handled it mentally with the bad break and being behind horses then having to work her way through the pack. To put in that run led me to believe she has some talent.”
“Her training since then has been good,” Block explained. “She doesn’t work fast so it’s hard to get a gauge on how good she can be, but I just think in the mornings she likes to take it easy on herself.”
Mom’s Red Lipstick, as well as all other 2-year-old fillies in the field, will be making her first start at the seven furlong distance,
“The way she finished in her debut gives me confidence that she’ll handle the seven furlongs fine,” Block added. “She galloped out well and had a ton of energy afterwards. You never know until you try them, but I’m pretty confident that she can handle the distance and I’m hoping she puts in a good performance.”
Mom’s Red Lipstick will break from post 8 and will be ridden by Jose Lopez.
Standing between Mom’s Red Lipstick and the winners circle will be Larry Rivelli’s Angelcents who comes off an impressive debut win at Arlington in June.
The 2-year-old daughter of Goldencents was purchased for $250,000 at the OBS sale by owner Patricia’s Hope Llc in March.
Angelcents showed her face on June 23 at Arlington where she was a runaway winner covering the four and a half furlong trip in a brisk :51.4 seconds.
Angelcents has worked regularly since her win in June, and comes into the Lassie as the horse to beat. She will be ridden by leading rider Jose Valdivia Jr. and will break from post 10
Rounding out the field is Richies Great Girl (post 1, E.T Baird), Whisper Snow (post 2, Carlos Marquez Jr.), Spitefulness (post 3, Sophie Doyle), Summer Day (post 4, Pedro Cotto Jr.), Cowgirl Kimmie (post 5, Carlos Ulloa), Fifthatnarraganset (post 6, Chris Emigh), Contendress (post 7, Mitchell Murill), and War Colors (post 9, Julio Felix).
The Arlington Washington Lassie will be the first of the 2-year-old stakes races, being carded as Race 7 of the Saturday nine race program. Expected post for the Lassie is 4:39 PM CDT.
