ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (September 7, 2019) –

Mom’s Red Lipstick grinded her way to a 3/4 length win in Saturdays co-feature at Arlington International Racecourse, the $75,000 Arlington-Washington Lassie.

Owned by Lothenbach Stables Llc, Mom’s Red Lipstick came into the Lassie after an impressive debut win at Arlington going five furlongs. The Chris Block trained 2-year-old filly settled early near the back of the back, relaxing behind 22.33 and 45.52 fractions set by Spitefulness. Going into the turn, Mom’s Red Lipstick began picking off rivals and by the top of the stretch had made her way up to second only a half-length behind the long time pace setter. Jose Lopez set the daughter of Race Day down for the drive home and battled Spitefullness to the final 1/16th of a mile before emerging victorious for a 3/4th length win. Mom’s Red Lipstick covered the seven furlongs in a final time of 1:24.55.

“She’s a totally different horse in the afternoon,” winning trainer Chris Block said afterwards. “She’s not aggressive in the mornings but she does what she has to do and gets herself ready for the afternoons.”

“We just broke out of there and relaxed,” said winning rider Jose Lopez. “I did what Chris told me and just got her away clean and let her find her rhythm. She really finished up nicely for me.”

This was the first stakes win for Mom’s Red Lipstick, who is now a perfect two for two lifetime.

“We’ll see how she comes back and point somewhere for a grass race or possibly Woodbine on the synthetic,” Block added.

Mom’s Red Lipstick paid $9.80 to win, $5.00 to place, and $3.40 to show.

Rounding out the top three were Spitefulness who paid $13.60 to place and $7.40 to show and Fifthatnarraganset who paid $4.20 to show.
