Holiday Stone Wins Wednesday’s Featured Diamond A Farms Purse
LEXINGTON, KY (Oct. 23, 2019) – Susan and Jim Hill’s 7-1 choice Holiday Stone scored his second consecutive victory when he held off Jazzy Times by a half-length to win the $80,000 Diamond A Farms Purse at Keeneland before a Wednesday afternoon crowd of 9,091.
Ridden by Declan Cannon for trainer Eddie Kenneally, Holiday Stone covered 5½ furlongs on a turf course rated as good in 1:02.84. (Click here for a video of the race.)
Holiday Stone, a Keeneland sales graduate, is a 5-year-old son of Harlan’s Holiday out of the Horse Chestnut (SAF) mare Lucifer’s Stone, winner of Keeneland’s Appalachian in 2004. He earned $48,000 for Wednesday’s victory, which increased his career earnings to $398,099 with a record of 27-6-2-4. He has made all but one start on turf.
Holiday Stone paid $16.60, $8.80 and $5.40. Jazzy Times, ridden by Miguel Mena, returned $8.20 and $5.80. Finishing 2½ lengths behind in third was Undrafted, who paid $4 with Corey Lanerie aboard.
On Thursday, racing resumes at Keeneland with a nine-race program beginning at 1:05 pm ET.
Keeneland’s 17-day Fall Meet concludes Saturday.
