HOTSHOT ANNA LOOKS TO MAKE IT FIVE IN A ROW IN RICHARD SCHERER MEMORIAL STAKES
By Grant LaGrange —-
New Orleans (November 29, 2019) – Hotshot Anna will try to creep herself closer to millionaire status and extend her win streak to five when she faces a field of eleven others in Saturday’s feature race at Fair Grounds Racecourse, the $75,000 Richard R. Scherer Memorial Stakes.
The Hugh Robertson owned and trained 5 year-old mare has been on a roll since winning an $80,000 allowance race at Arlington International Racecourse in early August over the turf course. After her victory, she switched to the Presque Isle synthetic main track in her next start to win the $100,000 Satin and Lace Stakes. The Satin and Lace Stakes propelled the 5-year-old mare to the Grade II Presque Isle Downs Masters, which she won the year prior and was looking to defend her title. Defend it she did, drawing away to win by just over a length and extending her win streak to three in a row.
Hotshot Anna returned to the turf course in October at Keenland facing off against a field of eight others in an $80,000 allowance race where she once again got the job done with a late charge, just getting up to win by half a length.
Hotshot Anna, whose career record stands at 23-11-6-1 as of now, is creeping near the million dollar mark in purse earnings having accrued $911,440 thus far in her career.
She is listed as the 3-1 morning line favorite, will break from post 5, and will be ridden by Marcelino Pedroza.
A Little Bit Me for trainer Brendan Walsh will be one of the main competitors for Hotshot Anna on Saturday’s feature ninth race. Owned by Hunter Valley Farm, A Little Bit Me exits the Grade III Franklin County at Keenland in October where she ran a solid fourth in a field of ten that day. The 5-year-old mare has five victories in her career, all of which has come over the turf course. Her career record stands at 28-5-4-6 thus far with over $340,000 in career purses. So far in 2019, she has been on the board in four of her eight starts. The daughter of the Factor is listed at 5-1 on the morning line, will break from post 7 and jockey Adam Beschizza will have the mount.
Rounding out the field in Saturday’s Richard Scherer Memorial Stakes is Hidden Facts (6-1 ML, Edgar Morales, post 1), May Lily (8-1 ML, Mitchell Murrill, post 2), On Probation ( 12-1 ML, Ty Kennedy, post 3), Blue Uluru ( 12-1 ML, Miguel Mena, post 4) Fame Feather (15-1 ML, Sophie Doyle, post 6), Domonette (15-1 ML, Shaun Bridgmohan, post 8), Violent Times (5-1 ML, Colby Hernandez, post 9), Sensible Myth (15-1 ML, Jack Gilligan, post 10), Mentality (6-1 ML, Kent Desormeaux, post 11), She’s All Skeet (12-1 ML, Eddie Martin Jr., post 12), followed by also eligible Play On, Bee Balm, Upset Brewing, and Divine Queen.
