Rainbow 6 Carryover Jackpot Swells to $785,266
Zayas Set for Return to Action on Thursday’s Card

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – The 20-cent Rainbow 6 went unsolved for the 17th racing day in a row Saturday at Gulfstream Park, producing a carryover jackpot of $785,266 for Sunday’s 11-race program.

Tickets with all six winners were each worth $3,639.34 Saturday.

The Rainbow 6 jackpot is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

Sunday’s Rainbow 6 sequence will span Races 6-11, featuring the return of Bourbon War in Race 10, a mile optional claiming allowance. Bourbon War finished second in last season’s Fountain of Youth (G2), beaten three-quarters of a length by Code of Honor.

Zayas Set for Return to Action on Thursday’s Card

Jockey Edgard Zayas, who has been sidelined since Nov. 20 with a finger fracture, is scheduled to return to action on Thursday’s program at Gulfstream Park.

Zayas had been enjoying a remarkable comeback from a broken tibia that had kept him out of action for the first three months of 2019. Despite the long layoffs, Zayas has ridden 167 winners, while claiming the riding titles for both the Spring Meet and Summer Meet at Gulfstream Park.

Zayas has five scheduled mounts Thursday.

Who’s Hot: Irad Ortiz Jr. rode a pair of winners, scoring aboard Vinnie Van Go ($4.20) in Race 3 and Speed Effect ($5.20) in Race 7.

Diamond Oops Makes No Mistakes in Mr. Prospector (G3)

Imperial Hint, X Y Jet Tire from Fast Early Fractions

Diamond Oops parlayed a fast start, a perfect setup and a peak performance into one-length victory in Saturday’s $100,000 Mr. Prospector (G3) at Gulfstream Park.

The 4-year-old son of Lookin At Lucky, who most recently finished off the board in the Nov. 2 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1) at Santa Anita after stumbling at the start, received a dream trip under Julien Leparoux to prevail in the seven-furlong stakes that also attracted multiple Grade 1 winner Imperial Hint and 2015 and 2017 Mr. Prospector winner X Y Jet.

Diamond Oops ($9), who was saddled by trainer Patrick Biancone, broke cleanly from the starting gate and was nicely placed behind a blazing pace set by X Y Jet, who ran the first quarter of a mile in 21.92 seconds before Imperial Hint pulled alongside approaching the far turn. X Y Jet and Imperial Hint ran the first half mile in 43.85. Imperial Jet quickly moved away from a tiring X Y Jet on the turn into the homestretch while Leparoux made a wide move into the stretch. Imperial Jet, the even-money favorite ridden by Javier Castellano, put up a fight but was no match for the Biancone trainee, who asserted himself inside the final sixteenth of a mile.

“We obviously knew there was going to be a lot of speed in there. He broke sharp and settled really nice for me,”
Leparoux said. “At the three-eighths pole, I started to make my move. I was coming behind them loaded. I came out and he made a big run.”

Lasting Legacy rallied from last in the six-horse field to finish second, a neck in front of Imperial Hint.
Diamond Oops, who is owned by Diamond 100 Racing Club LLC, Amy Dunne, D P Racing LLC, Patrick Biancone Racing, LLC, ran seven furlongs in 1:21.36.

“He appreciates a little moisture in the track. He’s had a good year of racing and training. He’s still a young horse for his age because he missed a year,” Biancone said. “We’re very happy with him today. Even though the pace was fast, he was cruising behind them. Julien rode him perfect.”

Biancone said Diamond Oops earned himself a trip to Dubai in late March.

Imperial Hint was making his first start since being scratched with a minor foot issue from the Nov. 2 Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1). In his two previous start, he notched back-to-back six-furlong victories in the Alfred G. Vanderbilt (G1) at Saratoga and Vosburgh (G1) at Belmont for the second year in a row. The ‘Little Rocket’ shattered the Saratoga track-record while running six furlongs in 1:07.92 in the Vanderbilt, in which Diamond Oops finished second, four lengths back.

“Seven furlongs was a little too far. That’s it. That’s all I was worried about Javier said he felt good. He just got a little tired. You could see him struggling a little bit at the end. His best distance is three-quarters,” trainer Luis Carvajal Jr. said. “This will hopefully set him up good for Saudi [Feb. 29]. It gives us six weeks, almost two months to get him ready. And if all goes well, we’ll jump to Dubai from there. “

X Y Jet, who hadn’t run since winning the $2.5 million Golden Shaheen (G1) in Dubai last March, faded to last.
