at Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale

LEXINGTON, KY (Jan. 15, 2020) – The sale of a yearling colt by leading sire Uncle Mo to Springhouse Farm for $400,000 punctuated a day of strong commerce during Wednesday’s third session of the Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale.

With the sale, the Uncle Mo colt, consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent, becomes the highest-priced yearling of the sale.

Keeneland sold 232 horses on Wednesday for $5,207,200, for an average of $22,445 and a median of $12,000.

Cumulatively after three sessions, 703 horses have grossed $37,624,800, for an average of $53,520 and a median of $25,000.

Springhouse is the session’s leading buyer with the purchase of the $400,000 colt, who is a pinhooking prospect, said Springhouse’s Gabriel Duignan.

“He’s a beautiful foal,” Duignan said, “to me, the nicest foal on the grounds. Uncle Mo, his sire, couldn’t be any hotter. It’s a lot of money, but he’s a great horse.”

The first foal out of stakes winner Red Sashay, by Big Brown, he is from the family of Grade/Group 2 winners Halory Hunter, Van Nistelrooy, International Star and Seahenge.

Taylor Made Sales Agency is the session’s leading consignor with sales of $1,884,200 for 59 horses. They include a colt by Constitution purchased by Solis/Litt for $210,000. The first foal out of the Tiznow mare Tiz Willy, he is from the family of multiple Grade 2 winner Win Willy.

The second most expensive horse on Wednesday is Elle’s Town, a winning 4-year-old daughter of Speightstown sold to Douglas Arnold, agent, for $240,000. Consigned by Bluewater Sales, agent, Elle’s Town is out of the stakes-winning Midnight Lute mare Irish Presence.

Arnold said Elle’s Town would remain in training.

“She’s a nice filly,” Arnold said. “She just ran second in a stakes (Pago Hop on Dec. 28, 2019) at Fair Grounds. She’s beautiful; got a great pedigree and she’s by Speightstown.”

The January Sale resumes Thursday at 10 a.m. ET and continues through Friday. All sessions start at 10 a.m. ET. The entire sale is streamed live on Keeneland.com.
