Correll’s Derby Contenders: Tiz the Law answers the call in Florida Derby

The Florida Derby on March 28 was won by Tiz The Law and he showed why he is probably, for now, the best 3-year-old on the East Coast. The son of Constitution tracked the early pace from fourth and powered away at the top of the stretch to win the mile-and-an-eighth race in 1:50 flat with ease.

The Arkansas Derby will be run on May 2 and after that we will have to see if there will be any more points’ races since six have been canceled because of the Coronavirus outbreak.

We are five months from the “new” Kentucky Derby on Sept. 5. There still is no decision on when the Preakness or Belmont Stakes will be run.

The colts that I like, so far, are:

Authentic (Into Mischief), 60 points.

Charlatan (Speightstown), no points.

Tiz The Law (Constitution), 122 points.

King Guillermo (Uncle Mo), 50 points.

Nadal (Blame), 50 points.

Shivaree (Awesome of Course), 40 points. He was on the pace early in the Florida Derby and held on for second.

Ete Indien (Summer Front), 54 points. How far does he want to go?

Gouverneur Morris (Constitution), 14 points. He disappointed in the Florida Derby.

Thousands Words (Pioneerof The Nile) 25 points.

Honor A.P. (Honor Code), 20 points.

Mischevious Alex (Into Mischief), 50 points.

NY Traffic (Cross Traffic), 50 points.

Maxfield (Street Sense), 10 points). This guy was injured before the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and has been working his way back. He might have plenty of time now.

Mr. Monomoy (Palace Malice), 52 points. He gets back on the list since he has plenty of time to heal from an injury.
